I accidentally spilled some super glue on the bottom of my laptop when trying to glue the rubber feet back on.

How do i remove it?

I have read that acetone will ruin the plastic.

>> No.158561

where did you spill it and how much was spilled?

I spilled it here, and it is a thin layer about the size of the red circle.

i tried to wipe it off with a wet rag before it dried, but that just spread it out.

I had a tiny bit of super glue solvent that came with the glue which was kind of working but i ran out.

honestly, acetone does take the glue off but will eat the plastic if you use too much
use a q-tip with a dab of acetone on it and carefully rub the glue until it softens
then use something to scrape the glue off
it may take some effort but will clean right up

Maybe try chipping/scraping it off gently with a razor blade?

Ha! I highly recommend this!

I literally just finished using some to remove sticker glue from a friend's post driver she just got. Then I used it to remove residue from tape I used to stencil her name on the post driver which I painted.

Goo Gone and any citrus-based cleaner like it are great for exactly what they are labeled to remove and its nearly instant.

Use that shit in a well-ventilated area.
Seriously.

Yeah, they have warning labels on it.

Use isopropyl alcohol. it won't damage plastic, but it will take some time and effort to remove it though.

I read everything on a product's label. I want to know what I'm getting myself into. Some of that shit is really bad for your health or can cause serious injury.

Like using Great Stuff Expanding Foam Insulation in the same room as a gas water heater for example will cause a nice explosion which traces right to the foam and burns EVERYTHING. I read all the warning labels and I always shut off such dangers before using Great Stuff. However, a friend of mine didn't and lost his eyebrows until they grew back because of it.

I tried using rubbing alcohol and it didnt do anything, then i tried aceton and it just melted the plastic.

I didnt realise at the time but i also got some near the screen too.

looks like i will just have to leave it as it is and cut my losses when i go to sell it.

>> No.159242

OP it's not like the super glue is covering a vent or something. It's purely cosmetic. But if you just can't quit thinking about it then I would recommend the goo gone as already suggested or try WD-40. I always use WD-40 whenever I get super glue on my fingers and it works.

Im selling it, thats why i want to get rid of the glue.

Not looking hard enough. Dollar stores sell goo gone for christ sake. Guess you don't really want the super glue gone if you're really not looking as hard as you are.

I live in australia, so they probably dont sell it here or something. ive been to supermarkets, hardware stores and dollar stores.

the only super glue remover i could find was acetone based.
