What are your favorite organizers for small stuff? Nails, bolts, electronic components, etc.

>> No.1559547

One key decision is what can be lumped together and what should have its own compartment. I put all my 1/4" bolts, nuts, and washers in one tupperware tray, for example. But I don't do much metric work so all sizes go in one tray.

Resistors are a pain. I have small containers like the top row of your pic for about 10 values, from 68 ohms up to 10 meg. All the rest are in baggies, with one for all the "red" multiplier, one for all the "brown", etc.

Another thing I eventually figured out is to keep one central notebook listing what is in my shed, my truck, my back room, etc., for all those things that just get stored and not used for a few years.

Plano style flat tackle boxes are the obvious choice because they’re cheap and you can find them in tons of arrangements.

I got pic related from Wally World and I want to go back and get some more. They were like $10 for 2 boxes, about the size of a Plano 3700 box, but close to twice as deep. They lock together so you could stack a bunch of them together with no issue. They’re one of the few storage containters where you can take out the bigger dividers and create a large compartment for half finished projects that you gave up on.

These cat treat jars are gudder than the coffee cans. You can actually see what’s inside and they don’t rust.

Various coffee cans and galvanized buckets. I also picked up a shelf/cubby thing from the school I work at when they were going to trash it. It's good for boxes of hardware and cordless drills.

Just bought this system for the biz
We install cabinetry of all kinds so we have twenty some different kinds of bolts and screws we need at all times as well as different hinges, accessory hardware, etc, etc.

I put the awkward stuff in the base (glue bottles, shims, screws we don't usually need), hinges and hinge plates in open flat boxes, and the rest in the boxes with little containers.

>> No.1559915

>>1559914
right now, we have 1 base, 2 opens, and 2 divideds, but I'm thinking of doubling it for different types of installs.

Screws and bolts I leave in their original boxes and stack with increasing diameter down wire shelves, metric separate shelves from imperial. For the super common sizes I have some of the fastener collections from McMaster that are built into the steel flip top lids cases. Those cases are mfg by ?Duram? and fit that companies' pull out drawer racks.

waste of space, you should use binders for components, because who the fuck needs 500 of each value leaded resistor
