Yes /diy/ normally considers shipping container houses a meme, but this might be interesting to some.

HomeMadeModern is a YouTube channel that does a lot of DIY projects that I like to watch, and the guy's been working on a shipping container house for the past year or so.

Normally I'd call them a meme too, but he's actually showing the construction process so might be worth a follow.

No idea what the scheduling is, but first ep is here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QA5fh29rhLs

I got a 40 footer for $2100 delivered at my shop. They're nice, I would probably make a workshop out of one if I buy rural land.

If the OP pic is the design and they live somewhere where it rains it's a fucking stupid idea. They will realise this when there's a mild shower and they can barely hear themselves think.

I've seen a few people put two parallel containers and then build a roof over the middle sections supported by both containers. Should keep them cooler too.

I suppose the inside could be lined with foam insulation.

I'd like to bury one for the insulation value of earth but I guess that doesn't work.

You can buy prefab large diameter pipes for going underground cheaply. The containers are designed to be loaded at specific points, and the boe calc for earth loads is working out where all the earth would want to move without the structure there, then working out what forces are required to stop that amount of earth moving in that way.

You know I actually would love to do something similar for a workshop/garage kind of setup. It'd be nice to have rooms and storage space in a kind of enclosed shelter, would work great with skylights and with the right setup it'd be pretty chiqu.

That's why I'd love to set up a small underground complex with a few sections of large diameter sewer pipes, and use a shipping container as a low key surface structure.

I've been thinking about doing something similar. Not with a shipping container, like I'd build an actual house.

Open space lofts are a top tier aesthetic. Good taste.
