My gutters are shit and causing my wood soffitts to slowly absorb water and rot. It's been on my radar since the Fall. I need to fix it all, but I just can't pull myself together to do it. I think it's going to be bad, but it's only getting worse. I feel so degenerate.

That actually works quite well in soft woods and is not a bad thing, the threads actually compress the wood outwards then after the screw has been driven the wood expands back into the thread. Was a common practice once upon a time, you can even do that with hardwoods if you drill a suitable pilot hole first.

Tiles came off in the shower because the grout cracked and water rotted the drywall behind it. Found plywood that’s same thickness as the wall and screwed it to the studs and construction adhesive glued tiles to the plywood. Used a broom handle, shaving cream can and a half roll of duct tape to hold it while it dried. Looks so good after grouting and no one will ever know. Selling house anyway.

Fuck that, get the Harbor Freight electric chain saw and cut them down yourself. Then get the Harbor Freight 10 ton wood splitter for $90 and split all of that into firewood. Sell the wood on Craigslist for $20 per wheelbarrow full like everyone else. You'll get exercise this way, get a return on your investment in tools so basically free tools, and net a profit in the end. If you really have a family and aren't bull shitting us, this is a great opportunity to teach your kids about the value of hard work, and they will look up to you more as a dad. You can also rent a U-Haul trailer to trailer away the excess brush down to the city brush dump. I think it's like $20 per load to drop off so very cheap to do, and the city turns it into mulch for resale so helps the environment too. You can spend your free time watching TV and being a lazy piece of shit, or you can spend your free time doing something productive for your family, teaching your kids a life lesson, and bringing in more income for your household. Seems kind of obvious doesn't it?

boss told me to just cut the wire as he was in a hurry so i never got to find out the problem.

but if its a kenworth it should have air brakes and have a seperate designated circuit for the brake light (the red wire).

the back up alarm is wired in paralell with the clear tail lights in the reverse (purple wire) circuit

That one is a little T330 or something. There’s a big jumbled mess of wires under the 5th wheel near the reverse speaker and I figured it was in that nest. The left turn signal on the trailer works intermittently and that reverse chime will sync up with the left signal and brake light sometimes but not other times. Plus the actual reverse chime is louder than when the turn signal makes it go on, which is why I think a couple wires in that nest are rubbing instead of an improper connection.

I bought a drill press at an estate sale. The deceased was a rebuilder of vintage cars and worked out of a large shop at their home. It had a full suite of stuff, not a single thing newer than the 1960s. The seller said a 3 gallon bucket full of rusty drill bits went with it. These were very large drill bits and had a Morse taper. Everything was rusty as fuck so I didn't bother digging through it and just loaded it into the truck. When I got home and unpacked it I found that it came with a huge number of lathe accessories. Either the seller didn't know what they were letting go of or didn't know it was in the bottom of the bucket. The drive back would have been another 25 minutes and it was the last day of the sale so I kept it all. Picture related is what I got minus about half the drill bits, which were soaking in Evaporust at the time. It all cleaned up okay and I had a nice thread about the clean up here back in July.

I don’t understand tip tinning. The brand new Weller tips I haven’t used come with a little coating on them but if I try and get some solder on the hot tip, it just balls up and sits at the bottom, and flux just bubbles and burns off.

The bit at the very end of the tip has the coating to tin, not the whole tip. If you turned it on and it heats up without you tinning the tip is fucked, keep feeding flux core solder onto it until it sticks. Basically the tip should always be tinned. If you clean it off tin it again right away.

I have cut down a full sized oak tree with 12” branches everywhere with the HF chainsaw. By the time I was finishing up the saw was going to shit. There’s a large plastic gear inside that was stripping out. But I live in the city and I don’t really have a use for a chainsaw, so I just threw it away when I was done. I knew I was overworking it but it doesn’t matter, that’s what harbor freight tools are for. That was $40 well spent to get the job done and I actually bought another one for some more logs I have that are more like 8” to make firewood. I'm not even sure it's all that great for the environment in the long run. Unleaded solder is more likely to result in damaged components (which are then discarded) from the elevated temperatures to work it. And it's mechanically less stable than leaded solder so the joints are more likely to crack, especially as they age, which means even more devices are discarded as trash. I use Ryobi drills in a daily basis at work, mostly grow drilling and placing inserts into moulded plastic, then crating with osb. I use a ryobi grinder to cut aluminum rail and stainless brackets daily. I fill up pulsating dampeners with that $20 ryobi handheld air compressor(amazing value). Just finished my 3,5y professional training as an aircraft technician and part of that was a 2 week internship at a small company who work on private planes, reworking frames, installing new radios and gps and the like.
Now in aviation, to this day manually driven titanium rivets are fairly widespread since they are easy to use and can't wiggle out because of the vibration in a plane.
There's special tools for driving rivets, but this company made me "press" them with fucking parallel pliers since those tools are "too expensive".
Although one may think this wouldn't be a big deal, this still gives me nightmares. If those rivets fail, some poor fucker sits in that plane one day and mid-flight the left wing breaks off.

I use wire rope, snatch blocks and my truck to preload trees before the felling cut then drive off to finish. The cable puts truck further away than trees could fall and the truck takes up slack so they are guided most of the way down.
