Am I the only autist that over-thinks tool-purchases?

I spent over a month picking out the socket set I wanted. A week picking out a screwdriver set. I spent probably 2 months deciding which color batteries I wanted.

Now I'm on pliers, and am obsessing over whether knipex is really worth it, or if they're just a meme.

Coming from somebody who bought some shit from Harbor Freight, just buy the good ones if you are willing to spend the money and take care of them. You may not need the extra quality, but you won’t second guess it and won’t want to upgrade in 6 months.

Wut sockets did you get after debating for months?

I wanted a complete kit, and ended up getting an SK set back when it was $150 for a full English English/ Metric shallow and Deep set.

Just 3/8”? Anyway that’s a good buy if you take care of them. And if it’s all 3 drives, that’s a steal. Not a fan of the round heads, but take care of it and you will never regret the extra $50 you spent over a Kobalt set over the next 40 years.

Just a 3/8" set but just putting off projects while I look for the right tool is annoying haha

Yes...
I work with tools as a living, and I don't typically get paid to stand there and consider if booboo kitty batteries would look better vs a standard battery...
>however, I've never seen 'different color' batteries anyways...I want Makita batteries-black...Bosch? Black...Dewalt? Black...
You some fag in San Fransicko or sumptin?

Another way about it is to buy cheaper tools, then when you finally decide what you want, gift the cheap stuff to your little brother or girlfriend’s dad. I have been doing that a bit lately. GF’s dad had to leave all of his shit in Venezuela and he was fuckin stoked when I brought him an old cheap Craftsman tool chest.

OP may be a fag, but at least you know what works if you use the shit daily and work around people using the same tools.

If you read GarageDiary and AvERealToolDigest all day, browse the DIY page of a Saharan Haberdashery Forum, and don’t have a boomer dad telling you to buy Craftsman, things can get fuzzy.

Yeah probably, my philosophy with tools is if you need something buy whatever is cheapest that gets the job done, if it breaks under normal use (not Cletus putting a 8ft breaker bar on it) then you've got a reason to go for a high end version of said tool, your better off having a larger number of specialized cheaper tools that a few super high quality ones.

It's better to have a chinese socket set that comes with a shitload of styles for every possible problem that you could encounter than a 600$ Snap-On set that only has some basic sockets and a wrench, I can't count the number of times my shitty wobble extension has saved me a huge amount of time doing some job on a motorcycle.

Journeyman turd herder here, I bought into the knipex meme after years and years of using channellocks exclusively, and let me tell you, they're worth way more than the like 20% more they cost than channellocks.
Been using Cobras for a little over a year now, and am kicking myself for not getting them 8 years ago.

Best mechanic I know here. You can be as autistic as you want about tools. Knipex is good shit. There is other good stuff too. And some stuff won't need to be that good(like a hammer) trust yourself. I do like shit crafsman combos for the grip. Use what is best for you. Throwing away money and cheap shit is for tards.

I bought a set of the cobras. Tried the thing from the advertising video.. put it on a pipe horizontally and stood on it.. held all 280 pounds of my fat ass on the 12inch cobras.. fucking impressed... I do appliance repair and got them so I didn’t have to carry a pipe wrench for gas line and a set of channel locks.. now have the 7 inch baby cobras, the 6.5 inch pliers wrench and the 10 inch pliers wrench.

The best advice I ever got on tools is to buy a "good" (e.g. craftsman sockets) brand for everything you need. Whenever you use a tool enough for it to break, go out and buy the best one (within reason) to replace it. You will then have all the stuff you want and the tools you use most will be the highest quality.

This is a damn fine method. My trial and error may be of use to others in finding that the snap on vapor blasted screw drivers are in a whole other universe from craftsman. I don't want to be a snap on snob at all. (Fuck them) but that shit is way Gooder.
Anybody know of comparable screwdrivers?
Also, craftsman regular are better than craftsman professional in everything I have worked with.

>> No.1513210

>> No.1513216

The real difference is the metal they are made from. Craftsman is ok but they wear out real fast. The high end snap on/ knipex type stuff the metals they are made from hold up longer. Craftsman is ok but the screwdrivers and wrenches are soft.

I tried the cheap tools and then buy good latter. But i am said Cleatus with natural 8 foot extention mode. I grunt and shit breaks. I'd rather have a $100 ratchet fail then have a $3 one grenade under normal use

Everybody loves Wiha. I think it’s like a Knipex, one of those tools that is sorta a meme but also really good.

I need to see if Williams has any good sets. Same company as Snappy and their ratchets are basically Snappy ratchets at 1/3 of the price so maybe their screwdrivers are the same.
