Which of these brands uses the least amount of Chinese internals? I know that Milwaukee wasn't what it once was, build quality is nothing like it was before. Got a feeling Makita changed the least, while the highend Bosch stuff is still mostly German/Malaysia

Ive run Makita for 10 years. The only reason I stay with one brand is because once you're in for $400-600 of batteries it doesn't make sense to change it up.

I just replaced my impact and drill for the second time. 4-5 years of daily use is pretty good for a $100 plastic tool IMO.

Most of the electricians I work with use dewalt, plumbers use milwaukee, steel framers use hilti... they all keep up just fine. Most of them just use a specific line if it has specialty tools for their trade, like the PEX tools from milwaukee for plumbers.

Bosch table saws and miters are accurate and good quality. You see them in use at least by lots of youtube carpenters. The table saw did good on accuracy in Tool box buzz too. The tools I've had in personal use and seen in action seem to last for a long time too.

They don't have the highest power usually though but enough to to do the trick. The philosophy sort of reminds Hilti and Festool. Lots of times those are accused of being underpowered too but they are precise and last long.

Yeah especially with automotive and household stuff where I only need to drive a handfull of nuts and bolts, they’re really nice with the small 2.0 battery.

First project I did after I got them got me hooked. I was able to get it between the radiator and engine and zip these long ass bolts on/off. If the 18v tools even fit, it would have been much more awkward.

I only paid $115 for the drill and impact with a 2.0 and 4.0 battery, but I still sort of regret not going Red. I think the M12 drill-impact set with 2x 2.0 batteries was $149. And then like 2 weeks later they had a sale where you could get the M12 drill, impact driver, hackzall, and a free tool or battery (would pick ratchet) for $199 and I was seriously considering being a dindu and returning the Orange and paying the extra $80 for that.

My good friend installs communications stuff and has a bunch of M18 and he keeps wanting the M12 Fuel impact driver. It’s super stubby and has as much power as most 18V tools. He didn’t think the 12V would hold up to his work until I was showing him what the Ridgid can do. That’s a perfect tool for electrical and HVAC guys who are driving small screws throughout the day and are running all around a building with their tool bag.

UK, and yeah I see a similar pattern here.
We work with sparkies on the regular and they always seem to use Milwaukee, where as we tend to use Makita (and often Bosch for grinders), as do almost all of the other fitters and crews that work around us on site.

Milwaukee hasn't really gained a lot of traction until not so many years ago in the UK, as it was more of an American-used brand, so I think Makita always tended to be the go-to brand for a lot of trades.

Oh, and builders round here seem often to favour Dewalt. Not sure about plumbers as I rarely see any in our game.

I think Makita are well priced and reliable, so now that everyone has Makita batteries there's just no real reason to change. We use a lot of the big 18v brushless impact wrenches in 1/2" and 3/4" and they are excellent. We work with some dirty, shitty, rusty plant as well.

It's because once you invest in a good set of quality tools you only need to replace batteries and parts when they break. 18v NiCad DeWalt for me. I have a hammer drill, impact driver, circular saw, sawzall, and vacuum that use the same battery. These tools are over 15 years old and I've only had to replace the trigger on the hammer drill. The batteries last 3 or 4 years and you can replace the internal cells much cheaper than a new battery.

Have you cracked his trip and are posting with it to trololol the internets? (oh god please say yes). You understand what the (you) indicates, right? It indicates you are quoting a post made by you.

Milwaukee M12 is also the only 12V lineup worth a damn.

Those 12V tools are great for sparkies and techs because you’re using the things to drive sheet metal screws and a handful of small holes. No need to carry around a bunch of 5.0Ah 18V batteries all day. And if you do have a big job that is basically carpentry or assembly, bring the M18 out from the truck. I would say the same for automotive too, so much easier to get the 12V around in and out of the car and the only reason to go larger in most cases is when you need a 1/2” impact, and you could use air in that case if you wanted.

I don’t understand the appeal of Snappy power tools either, especially with the things Milwaukee and DeWalt are putting out these days at a certain price point (with a 3-5 year warranty). Mlwaukee’s selection of impacts and ratchets is incredible considering they’re not an automotive brand.

There is one Snappy nog in our fleet shop and the rest of them are adults who would rather spend 1/4 the money on tools that work fine and the other 3/4 on their mortgage. You can’t even ask that guy questions about tools because everything is Chinese crap if it didn’t come off the Snappy truck.

And I got my 12V Ridgid set after seeing a couple Youtube vids where the guy was always shilling his Bosch 12V impact driver. Those 12V impacts are so great working under the hood because I need to take out a dozen 8mm bolts before I can start replacing anything in there and the 18V guns are way more awkward and tiring. I have a chubby for the M12 Fuel stubby impact but couldn’t justify the cost.

I have the Fuel 1/2" Stubby, the Fuel 1/2" High Torque, and the Fuel 3/8" ratchet. Best tools I've ever owned. Own a fuck ton of other Milwaukee brushless tools as well, they're all great.

Oh you poor thing. I'm sorry. Don't ever borrow my Milwakee M18 stuff, you'll chuck all that ni-cad garbage in the dumpster.

Goddamn is it nice to grab a drill out of the toolbox to put in two drywall anchors and have a Li-Ion battery that still has 75% charge after not being used in a few months. You don’t have to wait 2hrs to charge up the NiCd batteries before you can complete a 5min job.

Not to mention using a modern brushless sawzall with a 5.0Ah battery is night and day compared to using that dated stuff.

You could also try pic related and buy Li-Ions instead of new NiCd batteries when they need to be replaced. Then when you invevitably have to replace an old tool, you will already have batteries. That’s what I wanted to do if the Ridgid deal wasn’t such a bargain.
