>proceed to re-wrap the strip, gluing together the overlap with any normal super glue (note: do not blow on the super glue, will turn it white)

1. I just googled around and found a site that offered small veener samples. I used Santos Rosewood that was also paper backed. I had tried using a veneer that was not backed and it splintered everywhere. (Note: if you look at the photo of the ring, you'll see a light tan outline around the top wood layer. That is the paper. 2. Cut out a strip of the veneer. I used a strip that was half an inch by 10 inches. I wanted to give myself room while sanding to really shape it.

5. Remove the strip from the water and quickly begin to wrap it around the base of the drill bit. Not the shank, but just that small space that isn't fluted. Wrap tightly and then put rubber bands on it and let it dry on the drill bit.
6. Once dry, unwrap the veneer. Then re-wrap it around the drill bit, this time using superglue to glue the overlap of the wood layers as you go. I used Loctite super glue from walmart in a precision bottle. DO NOT blow on the super glue. The moisture will turn it white and it could possibly be seen later. Once you've wrapped the entire strip and glued all overlap as you go, put rubber bands on the wrap and let sit on the drill bit until dry.
7. Sand it down to the shape and size you want. Stain it how you want. Put a varnish on it as you want. I used Minwax 230 Early American as my stain and I used a wipe-on poly to finish it.
