Trying to take the pulley off of a denso alternator from a toyota Avalon. Tried everything. Differential heating, brute force, penetrating oil. You name it. Even lost a ratchet extension and a screw driver in the process. If you’ve dealt with ceased AF bolts before, please share your knowledge.

what am i looking at here?

the shaft has a small hex head
the pulley is threaded on to the shaft and has for lack of a better term, gigantic security hex

is there something similar to a 'honda crank pulley tool' you can rent from autozone or something for denso alternators?

>> No.1381740

Tried putting an impact on it or is that ill advised? It's not reverse threads, yeah?

Holy shit it coluld be reverse threaded...
That flew right over my head

Does that mean I’ve got to hold the hex that is the shaft and spin the pulley?

Looks like it isn't reverse threaded.

I don’t own an impact unfortunately and I tried/broke every combination of tools I could use with a 10mm socket

either one (hold one, turn other)

>> No.1381752

Why are you pulling the pulley in the first place? A alternator rebuild shop won’t charge more than $60-90 to rebuild it; and a Denso reman is probably a little over $100. It might be a press fit style

Do you know of a store bought tool or combination of tools that would be able to do that?

I’m trying to convert it into a motor for building an electric go kart.

Borrow an impact gun, something decent. They're made for shit like this.

the oversize hex indicates there is a lock down tool that fits it so it cant turn. then you fit your socket onto the nut. also get a breaker bar and correct socket size.

>> No.1383422

Step 1, visit Toyota forums and search them.

>> No.1383548

>>1381943
He's right you know. Breaker bar is the way to go.

Did you try impact wrench + screw driver through housing to hold fins in place?

A few weeks back I was struggling to get a similar alternator pulley off and after struggling with a breaker bar for like an hour and half, I borrowed an impact gun and it came off in like 5 seconds.

>> No.1383902

>>1383898
This mang, just borrow an impact.
If it went on with one it probably needs to come off with one.

>> No.1384926

heat the shaft up red hot

if you heat it up red hot it will try to expand but it won’t be able to because the pulley won’t let it. what happens instead is it shrinks on itself, then when it cools it will shrink down smaller than it was before.

truck we use for all kinds of things, bearing races, pins, etc

You need an alternator decouple tool. Thirty bucks.
