1364586 No.1364586 [Reply] [Original]

I'm currently living in a crappy place and it's cold as balls! I can only heat the place up using electric and already had some crappy heaters installed that cost a god damn fortune and do a poor job at at doing what they are ment to do.

I do have this Warmlite WL46010 panel heater and I will say that it is the best heater I've ever used. Problem being that I lent it out and was told that during its time away, smoke and fire started coming out of it. I decided to open it up and see if I could fix it. Upon finally getting it open I found the culprit (pic related). There are two of these in sequence and only one has blown its load.

I will admit that I can't remember the correct name for this part, so trying to look for a replacement is not going well. I've had ideas of just removing this one and rewiring it so that it will just be one, but then I remember what my old man used to say "Don't fuck about with electric, unless you know what you are doing!"

Am I able to get a replacement for this part or is it worth it to just get a new heater?

looks like a thermal safety device, cuts off power when it exceeds its ratings. but that one looks like it burned up... could be a more serious issue with the heater if that happened... I say buy a new heater.. if something is causing safety devices to burn up then its not safe enough to use and could burn your house

>>1364590
That's what I was thinking. While opening it I did find that things had been put inside it. I have no idea what happened to it while it was not in my place and I was thinking that the person that borrowing it might have done something to make this happen (placing clothes over it to dry them).

Looks like a temp switch (thermostat) I saw in an iron. I doubt you are going to find this exact part. Try looking for electric heater spare parts

>>1364590
You are an imbecile what if the part just broke you fucking retard. It's just an electric heater you idiot, nothing special.

>> No.1364601

Where exactly was the part?
Maybe you could buy a random thermostat and fit it or thermal fuse or whatever.
Provide more info about it.

As I said, there are two in sequence. The one that blew is the last one.

it's obviously not a user-serviceable part, because it is riveted on. so don't expect to buy that subassembly. also, if you bypass it, the unit won't cycle power off when it overheats in that area. and maybe that's not absolutely necessary for operation unless it's a redundancy in design to double your chances of at least one of them working properly so your house doesn't burn down.

is there no knob behind it?
are they both on 1 wire?
where exactly are those thing, what parts are around them?
where are the wire going?
how does the other good part look like? does it look/act like a switch?

It's really probably just that and you could just short it.

yes, because the heater element itself could have a short, the thermostat could be faulty and not shutting off the element.. yeah nothing special going on here, huh fucktard?

One end plugs directly to the thermostat (I have unplugged it).

Holy shit. Read the fucking thread. Its a fucking high limit, a safety that trips when shit gets too hot. They fail often because they rarely actually do anything and the connections are weak. You can either bypass it because there's another one RIGHT FUCKING THERE, or buy any high limit rated for about 500-600 degrees.

Why does even the dumbest thread need like 500 replies?

Looks like there's no proper info about these heaters or any heater replacement parts for these things.
These things are not meant to be repaired.
Your easiest option is just to short it.
