hi /diy/
First time browser here, I searched all 15 pages and didnt find what I was looking for so I'll just ask.
(I am also asking /g/ and /adv/)
I got hacked.
my computer is now restored back to factory settings.
my OS is windows xp
my antivirus protection is norton internet security 2005 and mcafee 2005.

tl;dr: My computer is restored to factory settings, what is the best antivirus protection/upgrades (free) for windows xp?

also random picture.

AVG Free Edition does pretty well for me. I also use Sandboxie. That way I can open my web browser using Sandboxie and not need to worry about viruses. Sandboxie is also great for those free trial programs. You can install it its own sandbox and when the trial is over you delete the sandbox and reinstall the program for another month. You don't have to worry about shit checkboxes and toolbar installations since those don;t get installed and can be deleted with the sandbox.

Also, next time you get a virus. Try using system restore in safe mode to restore it to a date before you got the virus. Then run antivirus if that works. I've saved a lot of PCs doing that.

Retrieve you a copy of Malwarebytes from pirate bay. The full time protection is'nt bad at all. Microsoft Security Essentials is good as well.
