How does one finds small leaks in joints for vacuum?

>> No.1301299

Wet each joint. Look for fizzles.

yes, put a little bit of soap in the water and you'll see bubbles.

Hold a lit cigarette or other smokey thing near it

It's under vacuum, not pressure you dipshits. Its not going to bubble or fizz.

>>1301294
Assuming you have a pressure gauge inline you can use denatured alcohol in a spray bottle. Spray the part under test and see if your vac pressure increases. There will be your leak. A piece if A4 rolled into a long thin trumpet and used as a stethoscope shape could also help you detect the sound of a leak.

Exactly this. Can be hard to determine the exact source, but it helps narrow it down a lot.

pressurize with nitrogen, spray with soapy water

..wow..

Why the fuck are you even in this board?

Drip acetone on questionable joints and watch the pressure gauge.

>> No.1301347

Usually the leaks are small and high pitched. I wave my hand in front of the joints, like several inches away. When the squeak gets muffled, I know my hand is over a leaky connection.

If the leak is big enough to affect a gauge, use electrical tape to wrap one joint at a time. If electrical tape fixes the problem, you found the leaky joint.

That isn't cause for "wow". Many DIYers have industrial gases handy. Not everyone is stuck with rocks and tree branches for equipment and not everyone who has industrial inert gas cylinders thinks to use gas for leak checks.

>>1301336
Or compressed air. I have nitrogen I use to pressure test vehicle AC systems but ordinary compressed air is enough for OPs setup and he could use a bicycle pump if he hasn't got shop air.

Pressure tests are far superior to vacuum tests because the pressure differential on a vacuum is only atmospheric at most and because outward-flowing leaks are easier to locate.

Apply pressure within reasonable limits for your system, say 30 psi for what I see in OPs pic, then check for leaks with soapy water. 30 might blow off the plastic hose since it's not clamped so I'd secure it first.

>> No.1301391

I'll try the acetone/isopropyl alcohol & expanding gas/pressure increase method, if that fails I'll protect the gauge and add pressure the system.

Thanks for

It will still bubble and or show leak. Don't believe me? Try it.

You don't know what the fuck you are talking about. you don't put random shit and water into a vacuum air system.

And how is it going to make bubbles on the surface of the joins when air is being drawn in, not being blown out, you fucking wastes of protein?
