>>1265319
its an open sourced breakout board for a standard and powerful microcontroller, something like the micro has just enough to get the chip up and running and nothing more. with chinese clones, if you wanted to make a one off project you could hot glue the damn thing in place and just get another for $3, salvage whatever you dont use (jumper pins and usb port) and move on with your life.

Just jumping in here.

Arduino suck balls to people with actual microcontroller knowledge for a very simple reason. You have no idea what the libraries actually do when you intend to do something with them. And to be honest you never really figure this out until you read all the pull requests.

Take the esp8266 for instance. If you use a timer before you start wifi and then you start wifi, it'll fuck up your timer. There's no work around and you simply have to start wifi first before you can use that timer.

People who actually studied microcontrollers are used of complete control, not ease of use. It results in incredibly efficient binaries. Arduino libraries are so fucking fat hello world programs chew up more than half the memory sometimes. As a guy who started on hc11s I never liked this fact either because every bite counts but it sure gives u an easy starting point when you know nothing of the architecture and u need to execute something complex like connecting to wifi.

So there's the fucking trade off.
