this is more of a /sci/ question
the bio-ship would need to have a carapace of some kind, chitin is unavoidable, so the shit itself would be predominately insectoid in genetic composition

you could customize the creature to have easily accessible nerve endings spaced around the shit, that computer terminals could be wired into, making the ship sort of cybernetic.

living quarters could be stationed in humid areas of the belly or something.

the difficulty would be feeding the thing enough sugar to power all those nerve endings, and making sure its skeletal structure is strong enough to keep all the carapace armor in place against the vacuum of space as well as micro meteorites

Well you could use DNA origami to make a tiny ship looking object. Though this would require you to get some custom DNA synthesized, which would probably run you a few thousand dollars or more.

Take one string of DNA, genetically re-engieer the DNA to take a form of a ship, with compartments and such, and ofc calculate what >>126291 is explaining. If you manage that, you'll be off in space with a biologic spaceship.. Now, the engines is another question that must be figured out and answered.

i always liked the ships in the old Buckaroo Bonzai movie.... they dispensed with the familiar lateral symmetry. this gave them an appearance far more alien than 99% of other space movies, IMO
