DIY submarine general. If anyone has basic plans for small subs, post 'em.

Pic related is all you need. Did you know what shipping containers have withheld multiple hits from the A-10 warthog? That makes they the perfect structure to hold back the water from crushing you. They are very cheap and popular too. just cut a hole in the side and install some glass to make a viewport. Bring along some imitation crab meat for lunch. It's great stuff.

Pic related is all you need. Did you know that shipping containers have withheld multiple hits from the A-10 warthog? They are extremely strong yet still light. That makes they the perfect structure to hold back the water from crushing you. They are very inexpensive since old worn out ones are no longer wanted. just cut a hole in the side and install some glass to make a viewport. Bring along some imitation crab meat for lunch. It's great stuff.

I always loved looking up pictures and videos of mini submarines when I was young, even that Chinese sub made from scrap was neat.

>reading this thread made me realize I now have a fully equipped machine shop and there's nothing stopping me from embracing the mini sub life. if any Australian anons on the goldcoast want to get some plans and materials together I'll weld, fabricate and machine any components.

The most affordable personal sub is the Kittredge K250 or K350 (the number indicates the depth limit)

They aren't big, they aren't pretty, but they cost roughly what the average new car costs and are actual 1 atmosphere dry subs unlike the glorified diving bell OP posted where you're in water up to your waist and subject to scuba dive tables.

If you GIS "k250 sub" you'll see all the little customizations people do to their own in order to set it apart.

Not much more to say. A guy I knew built his own submarine from scratch using some boiler tank I think. He could only dive a few feet deep before water started pouring in. He showed me a VHS tape of him operating it. It was powered with 12 volt car batteries.

He doesn't use it anymore, too scary. But he keeps it on his lawn where it is slowly rusting.

I think it's one of the coolest thing I had ever seen. And I can't still decide if he was brave or crazy for actually using it.

90% of the point of being underwater is to LOOK AT SHIT. If you're just gonna look at shit through a camera then just send a UUV and save yourself the trouble and expense.

Because if you're not going to build >>1245468
then you should probably build windows into it so you can see shit since you can't launch divers, because you're actually a diving enthusiast like the people who actually build these things and not some idiot building a submarine out of scrap just so you can LARP as a submariner.

Presumably to dive very deep at 1 atmosphere rather than decompress.
Anyway, I found a YouTube video about a guy who made a sub out of a propane tank. Just search "propane tank submarine".

Also i am perfectly capable of just tying blocks to my legs instead of buikding an underwater coffin.
