Thinking of a 4 seasons survivability, with a high calorie, low footprint garden and undergroud storage must be abile to generate power year round. The catch is it must be done on a fairly limited budget and setup remotely.
Thinking of a basic prefab, modular geodesic dome with generators and solar but would love to hear from yall.

Cabin with a basement. Use solar for basic essentials or wood burner. Look up winterized greenhouse. Basically digging a hole and putting glass over it. Probably use a wood burner for the whole thing at that point and cut the solar. Then be bored as fuck in the middle of nowhere.

I got in after the shipping container meme, but I saw "survivalists jizz their pants over making bunkers out of them. What's the meme? Do they implode or break apart, entombing you in dirt?

micro hydroelectric and having a stream that can turn it year round.

10-15kwh power generation. will allow you to have lights, heat, electronics, clean water, and charge an electric car(slowly)

Not OP. Let's say we changed one key condition from OP - instead of "fairly limited budget" we went with "budget of ~$500K", but also "Continental US" as a location limit. What direction would you /diy/ers go then?

Lloyd Kahn was the guy who started the geodesic dome home craze and he went back to making traditionally shaped homes.
Domes are very hard to maintain and leak like fuck, they are also expensive for what you get. A traditional shaped house is cheaper, easier to maintain and also has a better use of space.
I would recommend just building a small house and a large green house next to it. If you are worried about nuclear bombs or something then add a basement which doubles as a shelter.

Today's economy is built on propaganda, not least erasing those who "lose" as sore.
Reality is something that one could, and by economic morality should, buy their way out of.

As far as off grid stuff, I will tell you it isn't cheap if you want to live remotely 'modern'.
You want Internet / small electronics?
$500 - $1000 to have power for them.

You want air conditioning?
$10,000 or more.

Geodesic domes are not that hard
A photovoltaic system is either expensive or whimpy. You can only choose one.

Everything depends on where you are and how much land you have at your disposal.

Shipping containers are great but won't support the weight if you try to bury them as a shelter. They're designed to handle weight from stacking on certain reinforced spots, not all along their surface.

The economy is still shit. Though it's finally getting better, expect a recession in the next few months before things really start to recover.

But whether it gets better or worse, subsistence farming will never be a way to get ahead or even break even. It's been that way for millennia. Off-the-grid living is best suited for people with independent income from some other source.

They are $3k on the high end. Get a cdl and rent a truck or get a pintle hitch for a dually and limp it home.

Or fuck, for 10k you can buy an unfinished "shell" like a 14x40 ceder shack with a tin or agingle roof, 18" centers so u can insulate, 3 windows and a door.

Then fibish at your convenience

why not just spend that money on a press for earth bricks, make a fuckton of them, and do that? Your prep time is going to be longer but it'll look better and last > a hundred years with barely any maintenance.
