/diy/,
My AC broke and it's too late for the AC guy... live in Central Florida here, so it's kind of hot outside.

Do you think this idea for a diy ac system would work?

The cold air would rise from the icebox, and then the fan would blow the air through the hole in the blanket. The blanket used to isolate the air

>> No.119922

fail. Cold air doesn't rise

>> No.119926

Only if the fan points directly at the ice

>> No.119927

>>119922
Actually just realized that while looking at it, and already thought of something else.

What if I held the box above the fan (under the blanket) with holes in the bottom of the box, and a bucket underneath to catch the melting water?

Dude just point the fan towards the ice

lol water hitting fan
sounds like a great idea OP. make sure you get house insurance first

Pretty much this. You'll be blowing ambient air onto the ice, which will cool the air, while constantly displacing it. Throwing a blanket over it will restrict the airflow and make the fan work harder and give off more heat than without, so don't do that. How big of a room are you trying to cool, how hot is it, and how much ice do you have?

the fuck are you smoking dude? its currently 68 degrees in orlando... open some fucking windows!

Just put cold towels around your neck and eat Otter Pops. It'll be much less of a hassle than this Rube Goldberg.

Forget the cloth. Just drink lots of water and sit in front of the fan. I hope your not a fat fag because fat fags have a bad surface to mass ratio making cooling hard.

OP, look into whats called a "Hilsch Vortex tube"

Its essnetially a tube with one input and two outputs. When air is pushed into the input, one output produces hot air, and the other produces cold air.

Its pretty cool and I have always wanted to build one.

yeah, it must be so miserable for you in that 70ish° degree weather. And it's only going to get worse for you after dark. Thank god you came to us or you may have died from heat stroke.

Is central florida humid? If not, I suggest you'll put out your psychrometric charts and make a swamp cooler.

Get a box fan like this. Place it in front of window. Sucks air from outside and blows it inside.

Unless you have a huge airflow fans do little beyond stir the heat around.

That said, who the fuck lives in Florida and complains about 70F?

I'm a fat neckbeard and perfectly comfortable in full sun up to 105.

>> No.120501

so... instead of piles of ice and box fans...
get a window ac unit
or is this thread here because you are a cheap fucking hobo?
i think you can get used ac boxes from goodwill and habitat stores

hows this then? since you obviously want a diy response
read how to fix your busted ass ac unit, fix it yourself

Wrapping copper coils around a fan is a shit way to cool air, it's ridiculously inefficient due to the complete lack of surface area to cool air with.

The best method is to use some sort of heat exchanger with water or some other liquid coolant and then have a fan blow through it.

this device is actually identical to that which was constructed for dying president james garfield while he laid in the white house during one of the hottest summers in 19th century american history. this was actually the first air conditioner ever made anywhere. so to answer the question, it will certainly work, but don't try to pass this off as your own idea OP.
