Found this on a call I went on last week. Instead of making a header, they just soldered the cable to the header pins. Which they bent out. And soldered the wire perpendicular to the pin. Trird to tell them to get a connector, but they wanted it soldered back. So I tool them all off, and soldered them parallel to get muh surface area. Tugged on them and they were solid. I didn't even need the iron to take the old joints off. A gentle tug and they released.

To be fair, I have heard of running diesel through a engine to clean it out before, and since it's up on a lift, it's safe to assume that that is a possibility since there is no way that it drove to the mechanics without freezing up like that.

I have heard of it, but that isn't diesel and I think we all kinda know it. I own and operate a M35a2 and another way of "making oil" is the fuel density compensator, but in a diesel, the only acceptable colors for your oil are tan when it's new, and black from it running. Blowby is inevitable in high compression diesels as the rings take time to warm up.

I worked at a chevy garage in the early 2000s, back when GM just switched over to dexcool.

They really fucked up the formula of that stuff initially, and chevys always had a pretty shitty intake manifold design (no matter what engine, or style of gasket, or whatever, they all had intake manifold gasket problems).

Anyway, back then, this was common to see. More common was you'd take the drain plug out, and oil would come out but it would have steam coming off of it, which meant the intake gaskets weren't gone yet, but going. This would happen on brand new fucking cars too.

To this day I never got a good explanation as to what they did specifically that fucked up their coolant and intake gaskets so much, but basically the gaskets sucked, and the coolant was junk somehow and ate away at the already fucked up gaskets.

All of the misinformation out there people still talk shit about "deathcool".

Its funny because literally every single car uses long life OAT based coolants now, nobody uses old "conventional" green. You cant even find it unless you look really hard, and its a poor idea to put it into any engine made after 1995. Its what dexcool was.

Yes, that Peak or Prestone you bought is colored green. But you see where it says universal 150k miles on the front, and where it says HOAT or OAT on the back?
That means its not the old inorganic silicate based coolants. Its organic acid based coolant.

Hurr hurr. But in all seriousness I understood what you meant anon. I've actually made similar cuts before using a circular saw and keeping the cut seamless by just using a rafter square as a guide. If you buy a 6 foot piece of 4x4 what's the sense in spending extra time to measure the hole and then decide how much you need to lop off. That's why everyone sets the post first and then cuts accordingly. Apparently not everyone cuts the post to length the right way, however.

That phone terminal--the demarc that fell off almost certainly has carbon protectors in it instead of gas tube ones. It also might not be grounded.

I was always learned to not install dsl on carbons. They are a source of noise. Also if that shit ain't grounded--a #10 at least ground wire going to it and connected to some ground source--then that's a hazard and they should replace it if you mention it to them on a repair call. If they don't, then call the puc.

Nothing about that is correct. One of the problems with those is that the wire ropes would jump the pulleys and ride on the bolt, then break after a while of that.

There were a lot of great kludges in that place.I fixed some. Created some more.

The lineset from my first picture didn't originally have any counterweight, so I made this out of electric transformers. It was nowhere enough to balance to load, but made it a little more manageable and less likely to crash down hard if somebody loses grip on the line.

I was just reading a thread on a car forum today about a guy that wanted to remove his AC compressor to cut weight. When others told him he was a moron and that the pulley configuration of his serpentine belt wouldn't accommodate simply removing one of the pulleys, he ended up pulling off the compressor, gutting the insides and reinstalling the shell of it.

Trackfags can be pretty stupid.
