Why is it so hard to find good new Eastlake style hinges? Look at this garbage, it blows my mind that something made 100-150 years ago could be so much better than the same thing made today.

Does anyone know a good source for Victorian style hinges?

Why is it so hard to post without a tripcode?

It's convenient and the people who let it really bother them probably aren't worth having conversations with anyway.

You realise that the anon you just discounted was hingemaster. He answers all hinge related questions here. There's nothing he doesn't know about a hinge. Fags like yourself bother him because one took his wifes life. It was an underground bunker fag, he didn't listen to hingemasters advice. The hinge wasn't rated for the door. Hingemasters wife ultimately paid the price. But you keep on tripping, I'm sure it's totally convenient and necessary.

I know this is a lame answer - if you don't need a lot of them, keep an eye on ebay for the originals. I've been as unhappy as you with the modern victorian style hinges and have been successful in getting some good ones (I am in the UK though). You can get cheap ones that are still covered in paint and gunk, the best way to clean them up is to boil with bicarbonate of soda, scrape off the crap and then put on some grate polish - works a treat.

I got you covered OP, I know someone who found really high quality hinges like those in solid brass and stainless steel/nickel/chrome for their house. I'm in a different time zone from them and they are already asleep, so I'll be back in ~8 hours with a link for you OP. good luck, see you then~!

Thanks, I'll save that tip about bicarbonate of soda. I need a whole lot of them though and I can't find more than sets of two in the size I need.

Alright OP, I'm back, sorry for the delay. The hinges my friend got came from restorationhardware.com, who doesn't seem to stock them anymore, but you can get the same kind from here:

http://www.vandykes.com/door-hinges/c/1626/

they have a selection of quality victorian style hinges.

This, but be prepared to pay out the ass. I used to do demo and I would go to job sites an hour or two early and strip hardware and then sell it to fancy salvage stores. Bosses didn't care because I was working for free and had no reuse policy. Only thing they ever kept was large amount of metal like copper pipe.
