Farmland in the country. My folks rented farmland from their neighbors when I was a kid because they (the neighbors) were older and their kids didn't want to farm. So they gave my folks a good deal on the land. The neighbors died about 20 years back, left the land to their like 6 kids who in turn sold it off to our current neighbors. They never bothered to look into it at all and we continued to use the land to farm. So when my dad died and my mom went to live in a home, I filed for it. It requires 15 years in my state.

OP, sounds like you need to go about this in a different way. If the local police have failed you, go to the heart of the matter. Look up some phone numbers, get in contact with Children's Aid and tell them exactly what's going on. You have photo evidence of at least one of these kids walking around wearing a shitty diaper which obviously indicates an affliction of mental retardation, and is somehow allowed to roam free in the woods without supervision. Shitty diapers have been found strewn about the area, shitty underwear and towels - physical evidence. This kid is probably a danger to himself. Trespassing doesn't require habitation in most states. Georgia's laws, for example, include land, planes, trains, and automobiles as examples of areas that can be trespassed on.

Now, for it to be trespassing in Georgia, you either have to be doing something unlawful or you trespass after being told not to or you continue to trespass after being told to leave.

OP, if I were you, I would research your state's trespassing laws and act accordingly. Don't booby trap the place or do anything else; they can turn around and sue you for negligence, etc.

If your state's trespassing laws anything like Georgia's, you can simply notify them to stop trespassing, either face to face (and I would record) or via certified letter, and the next trespass is an automatic misdemeanor.

Ok, OP. Here's what you need to do:
* More cameras (maybe 1 or two)
* Motion detection (either through camera or motion detection sensors) with remote alerts so it'll text/e-mail you whenever it sees movement. It should also include a picture with timestamp of when the motion event was triggered. There's off-the-shelf shit that can do this for not much.
* barbed wire. It shouldn't count as a booby trap and should be legal, so long as it's obviously there.
* fences. Might be infeasible for a large perimeter, but a spiked, 5 or 6 foot high wood fence with open entrances and exits will make motion detectors there more useful.

I hope this doesnt become just one post in a sea of posts because I have some legal ideas for your property.

You can booby trap your place in a legal and nonlethal manner. Painting/ screwing down your windows are a good start. You could also replace them with plexiglass or some other material that is harder to shatter. You could plant Holly bushes under the windows so that they cant be broken into. You can also try poison ivy/ poison oak/ poison sumac/ Nettle/ ect on various surfaces or just start growing the plants in various places. Even some types of peppers will cause a skin irritant. Also, a fun fact: Pepper spray will last a long time on fabrics (up to weeks). You can homebrew your own and there are many guides.

I pick locks for a hobby. If your front door is being broken into then you need to shell out the cash for a real lock. Kwik set is cheap for a reason. If youre are going to do part of the door then do all of the door. Buy a couple of those big barn hinges and use a couple of them. Put some plates on the back side so that the bolts arent the weak points. At this point you need to make sure that your door and door frame can take a grown man's kick. If not then you know what to do.

You could dig holes in your land but there is no need to arm it. Just let the little bastard twist his ankle.

Lastly I really reccomend taking the high road. Dont talk to the parents face to face. It becomes he said she said too quickly. Type out a letter, date and sign it, keep a copy for your records, and then send it certified to the parents. Second is that you need to call the cops. Yes, again. When you do so you need to ask the cops name and badge number. write it down with the date and time. Then you call every newspaper, news station, and radio that will listen. Tell them that you photographs and are willing to do an interview about how the parents and cops are not willing to work with you. Do this all in the span of a day. Shame the police into doing their job.

I forgot to add in about Masterlocks. The standard lock you see on tool sheds (padlocks) arent much help. While they can be shot and still stand like the package says- The center is very soft brass. Keep records of every time you go to the police OP. Make sure to record what you said and how it was received- that way if the little shitstains try to turn it on you (he made me do it, etc) you can prove otherwise. If it doesn't stop, I have two ideas.
- Declare your property a shooting range. Put up signs warning as much. If they continue to trespass, then them getting shot won't be your fault. Make sure the entire parameter is clearly marked and you get needed permits.
- If outright shooting them is too extreme, I'd go with the trap route. Just say you were having issues with wild animals (wolves or whatever is native to your forest) and put up some animal traps that can take down a human. If the little shit gets caught, make sure you let him sit there for a while screaming before calling 911. Don't take him out of the trap either- doing so may make it possible for the shithead to blame you for doing more damage. Let the officials take care of it.

Put some warning signs directly on the property, near the previously broken window or doorways, indicating "authorities have been contacted and security measures have been set-up, tread area with abandon at own risk, leave immediately"

Or in an end game scenario, gather the waste matter on your property, creating documents to detail the act and your disgust then deliver it too the fathers property, don't dump it, that'll be a fly tipping fine or a healt hand safety debacle waiting to happen, throw some horse shit in the can for good measure ;)
