There was a remarkably similar one though. That said, you can't expect people to have read all topics that was ever here and the vehicle in question does look tempting for such a project.

Onto OPs question, can we get pictures of the inside, a bit more to go on? How's your climate, where are you going to drive it, budget, etc? Once you have an idea of how much you'll have to insulate it you can measure out a plan for how to use the space.

I believe I have about 6 inches for wall insulation. Based on the drawing I've provided. So I don't think I'll be taking anything away from the inside living space which is 12' long, 7.5' wide, and 6'4" high.

I'm really interested in what other people would think they would need in something like this as well as what cool bells and whistles.

Also to answer your other questions.

It will mostly be driver off road. Top speed on the highway is only 50mph. Id like it to be comfortable in any climate except for extreme negatives and highs. I don't be taking it to any tundra or desert. Budget 10k

Nah, a friend had a similar army vehicle (sold it, to expensive to drive with today's fuel prices) so I'm kinda partial to the subject.

>>849016
Depending on how fancy you want it you'll probably want to change the flooring, make sure to shield it from splashing from underneath.

Plan it through, how are you going to use it? A bed should be fairly straight forward, use the space under it for storage. A kitchenette could probably be sourced from some old crappy camping van for next to nothing plus removal of said camping van.

Remember that what you don't have in budget you'll have to add to the project in time.

I will be taking out the boards that are there now and replace them with a frame, insulation, and then cover it all up with some osb. Right now I just have osb over it all and the spots where its just metal and no wood, you can feel the cold air coming up from those spots. Someone suggested some spray insulation underneath but that has to be checked and maintained if im off roading all the time, i assume.

Decide first and foremost what you are going to NEED to live out of a truck for two weeks. Lay out a plan that fits everything you will need as compactly as possible without losing functionality. If you have any space left, only then start adding creature comforts like a refrigerator, TV/computer, or furniture other than a bed.

I would have a folding futon along the frontmost side with storage underneath. On one side stretching towards the door I'd put a table/countertop with a minifrige and maybe cabinets underneath, or just a small pantry space. The open space left might house a dog cage, because who wants to travel alone?

How feasible is it to mount solar panels to the roof? I can't imagine you'd use much electricity. The only problem aside from startup costs would be finding a good place for a battery bank.

It wasn't its own thread, but rather someone hi-jacked it with that.
The wood was chemically treated with bad shit, and a lot of it was rotting.
The vehicle had essentially no insulation.

Had all the same problems as a storage container.

I need shelter from heat and cold. That's pretty much it. I've done this before for about 3-4 months so everything else is pretty much a comfort rather than a need.

As far as a bed, I found some roll out beds at ikea. Only twin size but that fits me. Plus I was thinking of mounting them to the wall so they can fold away like a murphy bed.

When it comes to stuff like electricity, I've already figured all that out. Solar panels wont be good because for now the truck is and will be in South Dakota. One bad hail storm and there goes all my panels. I've also done some calculations and just to recharge the batteries the truck runs off of using the sun would take like 36 hours of ideal lighting conditions.

The inside lights will run off the truck battery. 24v fridge bulbs. Don't do shit when its day and you have sunlight coming through the windows but are great at night. And even having 6 of them on would take weeks before it drains the battery past the point where it can't start the vehicle.

I've already wired the vehicle so it can run the lights on battery and when i flip a switch I can plug into a standard home outlet or rv outlet. That's pretty much when I'll be using electricity, when I'm in civilization somewhere. And I've got a spot for the battery bank, right where I took the spare tire from

you can buy a 3way cigarette lighter adapter
complete with a couple 5V USB charger connectors that will wire into 24V trucks.

Going from 24vdc or 12vdc straight to 3vdc or 4.2vdc is way more effecient for charging laptops, cellphones, vibrators and such than going from 24vdc to 110vac to 4vdc or whatever. Most of that shit is pretty standardized so as long as it fits the 12vdc lighter socket...

Also, if you're poor and water getting into the cab isn't a problem: 3" of correlated cardboard, with tinfoil on one side, and for example, a trashbag around it makes pretty fantastic insulation.

I also found pizza boxes stuffed with plastic grocery bags work pretty well, but not AS well as what I mentioned. You could line the inside walls with it and it'd help a ton on heating and cooling, probably even the floor too if you wanted to polyurethane it thickly or something.

You could punch it full-force and it wouldn't give or break. I put a thermometer on one and it actually stayed warmer on the inside than the 6" thick walls did.

Worked for the glass in a storm door I had to replace from a overzealous, UPS hating dog, too. (Fucker knocked the windows out trying to get to the UPS guy.)

Not all electronic devices can run off a battery, remember a lead acid batteries voltage can vary anywhere between 11-15 volts, 16 volts for forktruck style cells. HOWEVER, if op was not a faggatron he could use a 24 volt battery bank and a DC buck to regulate it to whatever voltage he needs. You could run any device you want from a standard 12 volt cigarette plug, wire a volt meter and leave the adjustment screw where you can get to it and adjust the voltage for whatever device you need. You could run a tv, xbox 360, laptop etc this way as long as its dc into the device and not internally rectified. He could stick with a 12 volt system but i dont know of any buck boosts than can regulate under a volt. Most tvs now are 19 volts and laptops as well.
