Hey guys. I have been having an issue with dust in my house. I have followed a few "life hacks" on how to minimise dust. Vacuum twice a week, using microfibre cloths etc but it doesn't seem to help all that much.

I have pets that don't help the issue also so I have decided to build a basic air filter system.

I found a few tutorials online and they seem pretty straight forward. Using a HEPA filter and a box fan but in my country neither box fans or large HEPA filters are all that common.

So I was wondering if any one had experience with some cheaper materials that would help get some of the crap out of the air?

Pic unrelated

Box fan is silly anyway. Get one of those spiral fans that look like little electric turbochargers. higher the BTU the better.

Also you can duct tape filters together. or if you can find some, they sell mats of basically "make your own size" filter fuzz.

You can buy industrial HEPA filter on ebay (from pharma/semiconductor surplus dealers), they are very cheap often. Just select USA sellers. Then it might be expensive or not to get it shipped to your country.

HEPA filters aren't cheap. Might be overkill for dust.
Try any large hardware store for furnace filters.

Mount any fan on the side of a box, put filter(s) on the other side(s).

Saw one here that had 2 filters in a V up against a fan with triangle cardboard triangles on top and bottom that looked pretty good.

Box fans are designed for moving lots of air against no resistance. They're not the right kind of fan for a filter, because a filter presents significant resistance. You want a centrifugal or hybrid-flow fan. If you want a no-hassle solution, get a hydroponic weed fand and a hydroponic weed filter, and push the two together.

Furnaces only exist in the USA, so furnace filters only exist in the USA. No-one that's not from the USA even knows what one is.

Car pollen filters are also a good bet.

some good suggestions and making sure you have an adequate fan to push/pull through the restrictive filter is a must.

it will also help to limit the source of particulate you are trying to contain, "dust" could come from a lot of things. pets obviously are a big source but so are building materials and the outdoor environment. the backing on your carpet breaking down will cause "dust" or if you live on a dirt road, have unpaved driveway, live near actively farmed fields, live near a major highway or have prevailing winds that carry particulate from a major source to your house. It helps to have an idea of what you're trying to filter and where it's coming from too.
good luck dust filtering anon

Some industrial fans use btus to measure cooling power. Mostly when hooked to a evap cooler

Yeah, I'm gonna need some sauce on that.
