729101 No.729101[DELETED]  [Reply] [Original]

Hey guys, remember me? I picked up this safe/locker/whatever at a storage auction several months ago, you guys helped me out with it. Although it didn't have keys, you guys directed me to a key code on the back. Anyway, I ordered new keys and got them in and everything, but they almost work. I can turn the lock about 1/4 of the way and it just stops turning.

Any ideas? Again, I don't want to damage the locker or anything, I want to either use it or maybe sell it depending on what it's worth.

Stack on is the manufacturer of the box. They probably get the locks and keys in batches, so op most likely has a matching key.

There is no value whatsoever in checking with the manufacturer to be sure everything is as it should be after a key replace, before tearing apart and possibly destroying a completely functional device. Got it.

This.
Might wanna try tapping it a bit. Could be rust if iron or aluminum oxidation if the lock is aluminum or steel corrosion. If the lock is composed of steel/iron and aluminum, you will need to buy Flitz Aluminum Preclean. The surface of any aluminum material quickly becomes aluminum oxide when exposed to water or air. When it comes in contact with steel/iron, and the steel/iron begin to rust, the bond between aluminum oxide and steel surface becomes incredibly strong and difficult to move.
Like I said though, insert the key into the key hole. Gently tap the key from as many directions as possible. Shake the key a bit. Then try again. Chances are one of the locking bars rusted with the interior. If brass is involved, you might try searching for some other chemicals. Rust removes will be no good as the problem is with other metals.

>> No.729159

Have you tried lubricating the lock? But since it turns part way it does sound like something is jammed. Try tapping on the key with a small hammer or screw driver handle while turning.

>> No.729193

You could always drill out the lock, weld a new lock bar on it, and just use a padlock or some shit. I know you said you'd like to avoid damaging it, but it's a shitty stackon cabinet, so you won't be harming the integrity of it by welding a lock bar on.

Uhh no. It's nothing like that unless maybe you lived in the UK. Even here in California they're legal.

Just give them to a gun shop to hang onto until a seller is found. You'll get at least 10 grand for you and your family and everything will be done completely legally.

Take pictures, and take the pictures to a local gun store. Lots of gun store owners are responsible firearms owners and dealers who sell firearms to police officers, military, sportsmen and other responsible individuals. What will happen is the dealer will evaluate what you have, and make you an offer, or refer you to someone who will make you an offer.

You're sitting on some money here, OP. These could pay for a semester or two for your kids at college. Stop sweating the legality; you came upon these firearms legally, and you're going to sell them to a responsible third party. Enjoy yourself.

Even if you had bought a fully automatic military machine gun with belt ammunition and it was a murder weapon, you're not legally liable. Stop sweating.

The funny is that that's not even the firearm for an SVD. He still has the actions in one piece and that is the actual 'firearm' part.

That's why they're stored apart because they are no even a complete firearm until they're put together. Op has some steel sitting in a safe and is afraid he's going to get corn holed for it and can't be bothered to READ what is actually going on
