What is the name of this connector? It used to hold a 4 wire ribbon cable. It is on the motherboard of my laptop, it used to be a mouse connector.

Now the problem is that it used to have a movable part which secured the cable in the hole but i broke that part. Can i get a new connector and get off that cable lock like part and put on this connector on my motherboard?

HP tech here, that's a ZIF (zero insertion force) FFC (flexible flat cable) header. You can indeed buy one and swap the top, but you may break the new part when you remove it from the body of the connector. you'll also need to know who made the existing header (amphenol, foxconn etc) so you can buy the right part, good luck tracking that down..

You should still be able to lock the ribbon in place if you still have the upper part of the header. It will be a bitch, but you can line it up and pop it down to lock the ribbon in place. The clips you likely broke off the sides of the lock are only there to hold the top onto the header while it is open, they do not effect the ability to actually close and lock the ribbon in place. If you have lost the upper part, you might be able to get away with cutting a small rectangle of HDPE plastic (like what milk cartons are made of) or similar soft plastic and shimming this down into the gap. I have done this a few times on out of warranty and personal machines with great success.
