Hello DIY! Let's talk about a fun idea.

I dream of having a mobile house (that's one manufactured by tumbleweed right there on the picture)
But as cuddly and well made as they seem, I would still love a bigger space and I thought...
Why would mobile mean small? What if I could build a mobile house in 2 separate parts that can be assembled at destination? (Imagine a regular house cut in half both parts lugged on a trailer ready to be re-assembled)

I am by no means an expert, just a dreamer, but a determined dreamer. I suppose there are many challenges involved in this, but as a non engineer, the primary question that comes to mind is : What would be the optimal way to interlock the two parts together without compromising the insulation?

Tell me I'm not just a dreamer and help me find the ressources to make this concept reality! Roam all the forums! Ideas?

Maybe it's been done already... but I've never seen something like if it's the case

we have something like this in Australia called a demount-able they're made to be towed out via prime mover and set up with the axles removed not really the type of thing you want to move more than once or twice they can't be wider than 2.5 meters here but they can be up to 25 meters long and you could join ten of them together for a 25 x 25 meter square i'd work to having exposed insulation on the sides were they join together and bolt them or something. not really portable. we use them over here to get quike accommodation in areas with no infrastructure. the bigger you go the less mobile it'll be.

Is there a link where I could find some of the demountable you speak of? Ive searched but I came up with things that look more like industrial complexes that homes.

I kind of would like to build sci-fi inspired functional concept "melee" weapons then test them to see how they preform compared their normal counterparts.
Stuff like vibro blades, electrifier swords, stun batons, impact gantlets, "high tech" war hammers, glowing telescopic batons, "powered" weapons, etc.
Too bad I do not have a workshop or even a proper work bench because it seems like it would be fun to puzzle out.

I also really want to build/test a chainsaw sword even though (or maybe because) it is probably one of the most impractical swords ever.

I am not sure if you are making fun of me because I want to build the equivalent of complicated dangerous toys or you are making fun of my spelling and/or grammar.
At least I am being productive in this thread.

The only thing i can think of that is similar would be either 1) a double wide trailer or 2) set of shipping container homes.

Build a slide-out.

Or build a fifth-wheel style trailer, it could be longer and heavier.

For some reason I have been thinking off making cool/strange lamps for the heck of it.

>Why would mobile mean small?

Are you retarded?
The whole purpose of mobile being small is to make it convenient to be mobile. The larger something is the more logistical issues you have.

Why even bring up tumbleweed houses when what you're talking about is moving away from that concept entirely?

Are you retarded or what?

Some people can't figure out how to start criticism another way that this, sigh.

I don't see what's so retarded of wanting a house that you could move from time to time that also has decent living space.

I brought up tumbleweed houses because that's the style of interior i would like my house to have.

It may be a less practical concept to have it in two parts, but the added space and esthetic more than make up to it in my mind.

Pay Sea Box to convert two ISO container shelters to your Tumbleweed specification. You need an engineered structure for the split you want, you need ISO containers to fit on trucks or Landoll trailers for road transport and robust locking fittings, and you need professionals to build it.
Dreaming is fine, but even if you are a fabricator with good resources (if you were you'd not be asking) you'd be dropping serious coin. Doing what you want is practical if you can afford it.

I get into the specifics of what they can offer when I have time, but I'mlooking for something nicer than an ISO container for the exterior.

I can be decorated of course... But ISO containers are really drab on their own.
