hi /diy/

i've got a broken ?4-5? year old 37lc46-zc LG HDLCD
for a while if i left the thing on for a few hours then pressed the power switch multiple times, it might come on, now i get nothing at all

thinking about taking off the back cover to see inside but i've got no idea what to look for
is this at all repairable?

those symptoms are consistent with a "bad cap" problem on the power supply. these are fairly easy to identify coz you just need your eyes to see puffed-up caps. google for pics to see what a bad cap looks like, and if you see some, replace them.

If it was a CRT set it probably would have survived.

No OP but this is both my model and issue in picture form. Monitor just recently had this issue and I'll try the fix when I get back from uni this weekend. I'll post some pics afterwards.

Serendipitous! I learned how to solder because of this bad boy. It's surprisingly easy to fix if you just buy the relevant capacitors. I recommend http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HoELQMxVePs as a general guide and http://www.mouser.com/ for your parts. You'll have to track down the asian repair guide for how to take the bitch apart.
