I want to build a sleepcave (pic related)
I want to build it as a standalone so the bed wont be damaged.
The blue thing is a curtain
The walls will be filled with wood

>The question now is, what do i do with the above free space?
I thought about a kind of storage but it will be to deep i guess.
Shelf? But what do I do with the space behind it?
And just use it to put my bag and jacket on it seems like a waste...

Any ideas?

Draws for bed cloths?
Cupboards for clothes/shoes?

One option if you want storage would be to have it accessed from the center, in the interior, rather than the exterior edges, like a miniature loft.
Either have a hatch, and the whole thing open plan, or divide it into sections with normal or sliding cupboard doors, and recess the center up so you can stand on the bed for access. This would not only give the exterior a cleaner finish, but if you could convert a stylish chandelier style fitting with a portable lamp, in could make for an interesting (and romantic, if you're aiming for that at all), lighting choice.
Plus no one would know where your stuff was hidden.

"sadly" I have a big cupboard already

Could you not exchange the cupboard for this, then? It would clear up some floor space for something else, or just for having more floor space.

I'm actually considering doing something very similar with my bed, because my room is, frankly, tiny, so any other ideas would be much appreciated.

Dude, don't do drawers on the bottom of your bed.
Firstly, under the bad is the biggest deposite of dust. Or however you want to call it, whatever you put in there will get dusty in no time. Also you would damage the bed with that and it could lose its stability.

Also think about that once you do this, your bed will be like tent, with very bad oxygen circulation. On a hot day you will be dyin in there.

But for your question, you could "simulate" stars within that space, i guess. Make some fluffy glob or w/e and put small LEDs in it.

that sound terribly good and got me thinking. There would be so much room to fill. I dont know if i would be able to manage so much stuff. A more minimalistic approach would be suitbale.

As i wrote this above pic related came into my mind. A kind of night table at th ceiling

Im going to move text month an my appartement will be shaped somewhat like this (size will vary ~17m2)

im fond of the star idea

For the air circulation, i could fix the curtain all around.

What I envisioned for yours would turn out similar to the top image here, although of course more precise.
The way my room is arranged I would be constructing with a window as one "wall" of the cave (which quite nicely solves the other anon's air flow issue) and hence would be constructed more similarly to the lower image, with only two walls use for storage, one empty for the window, and the third used as a board for attaching lighting, speakers or whatever.

From your second image, it looks like the cupboard is physically part of the room. If it is, there's nothing much that could be done to integrate it/exploit floor space made by removing it...

Are you a carpenter or what?

From seeing what you created i'd prefer the bottom one. The above seems a bit too stuffed.

Did I understand the window part correctly in leaving one wall completely open of the top case?

ohhhhh
you meant to leave the ceiling open!

No, just someone who likes designing and planning things. I did however help construct most of the furniture in our house (mother was taught by her father, who built engines for rolls royce), including the bed I'm lying on at the moment, which I intend to incorporate into my design.

The top one is more closed in, but it depends on exactly how much storage you need and your desired effect. If you want man-cave of solitude where everything's in reach, then the above may suit you more, especially as electronics could be more easily integrated, however my aim is to create more of a "window-box" type space, so I can close off the curtains to my room, and open the ones to the outside.
Use of colour (and possibly strategic lighting and mirrors) would be necessary in order to combat stuffiness and create the illusion of more space in both cases, but as I'm using this to replace a good deal of my current storage, I'm going to get a larger mattress to increase the overall area of the unit.

If you're intending to get rid of your current furniture and try building this from scratch (or almost) may I suggest you try either freecycling or purchasing a bed and units already constructed that you can adapt, as this may be easier than trying to construct an entire bed.

I've just realised the slight error in this image, the top of my unit will be flush with the ceiling of my room, and the "wall" at the rear will be as minimalistic as possible to provide sufficient support (for both the cupboards and curtains) without blocking too much of the window. The empty rectangle seen towards the rear is the location of the window in relation to the unit. Looking at it from the room side, it should look something like this <

this project of mine turns into massive proportions lol
I just planned to have a dark box to sleep while my room can be lit by street lights at night.

I dont plan to put any electronics into my bed nor mirrors.
Maybe lightning, for comfortable reading matters. I am not very experienced in working with wood so making a little cupboard unit at the ceiling would be difficult, maybe obtain some already made furniture would be of use there. If I get something like that, then I would put it to towards the feet end. At the head I will definately make a shelf for an alarm clock. Also glowing stars will definately be there.

Thank you so much for all the effort you put in my thread guys, espeacially you Scraf.

Haha no worries man.

Depending on how your uni/college feels about you drilling their walls, you could attach the cupboards straight onto them. As there's only one corner of the bed not next to a wall, maybe try sourcing a nicely carved post (either from a old bed, or a sufficiently sturdy coat rack, for example) to add a bit of class and character to the whole arrangement. This would also mean you could have two sets of curtains, supported from each wall and this post, which would increase the control you have over how much light enters your little box.

and you're seriously no carpenter? lol
