I'm looking to use homebrews and install iso's onto my psp. I have searched google and saw that you need custom firmware to even start. There are many versions I have found but all pertain to certain model. I have the psp 3000 if that helps. I am looking to see if you guys can give me a different explanation or a better one on this subject.

I still uses my modded PSP slim every day (and i'm almost 30). I seem to remember needing to perform the "Pandora" mod on the batterry in order to get it to accept custom firmware. You can undo that mod with a pencil. I think I use M33.

Why are PSP batteries such shit?
If i turn my PSP off(Like all the way, not just sleep mode) the thing will have lost its charge in ~3 weeks. If I turn my DS off all the way, and try to turn it on TWO YEARS later, the thing still boots up fine and the battery is roughly were it was last time i used it.

This isnt from the PSP battery being old either, as i remember trying it with a brand new one when i had to replace it. Its esp. irritating cause the PSP's good titles were few and far between.

Yeah I noticed that too. I leave mine plugged in when I'm not using it, and take the battery out when I know it can't be plugged in for a while - but you're right, it's a pain!

PSP3000 has a fixed MoBo, so forget everything that involves Pandora's Battery.

That said: When GeoHot cracked the PS3 Firmware, they also found the keys for signing PSP Software. Long story Short, there are Apps for your PSP that are not signed by Sony and will get you a custom firmware, at least until you shut down your psp completely.

Look for the 6.60 PRO CFW, it runs the Temporary Firmware mof for any 6.60 Firmware PSP.

Nothing lasted me longer than the m33 drivers.

It's probably not the batteries themselves, but some power-sucking component of the device that stays powered.

As an example, the Sega Saturn uses a coin cell battery to power its battery-backed save memory, but they don't last very long. A while back some Japanese hardware hackers discovered that it was actually the real-time clock that consumed the vast majority of power, and if they swapped it for some other chip the battery lasted several times longer.

I did mine and all of my friends this way

It might even happen on purpose to protect the cells. Self discharging batteries are nothing unusual in times of lithium ion cells...
