I'm going to swirl paint my jazz bass tomorrow.
It was gloss black. I sanded the glass off and I'm down to where I should be but I'm having troubles finding any good information on if there is anything I need to do before dipping it into the water.
Should I have a primer or something to protect the wood from water warping?
Also what kind of paint should I use? I picked up some oil based paint at a local art store.
I've had a couple people tell me that I shouldn't use oil paint I should use enamel. I thought enamel could be oil based though.

Also will I need to paint the guitar white?
I've seen a couple videos of the guitars not being and white and the people got the same result.

Humbrol Enamels are the best to use you can use other enamels if you want they wont work as good.
and you should paint it white or at least off white.
dont do to much black or green its tacky.

look at the slowness of the dip and the technique hope this helps
prime if you want it wont warp the wood if its wet for like 30 seconds. once it dries which is super fast just wipe it.
and please play bass like a bassist. have fun https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CT7rQT7dNAs

just like with painting anything, it's better to put on some white primer but it's not necessary.

post pics when you're done

When people say enamel 99% of the time they mean polyurethane paint not oil based like say rustoleum

I'm also going to do this but after a few days of research I'm using magic marble colours because they are easier to handle, I also can't get hands on borax

btw what colours are you goint to use? I probably wanted to make something like vai's passion and warfare but I'm not really sure
