I got this at a flea market. Its a zippo knockoff, Reliance Lighter. made in japan.

Anyways, all i've done to it is pull out the wick a bit but it still wont catch, The flint still sparks fine.

I dont know anything about this, but I read about refueling it. How do I do that?

>> No.418463

Pull the body out of the case. On the bottom there should be a strip of felt that you open up to reveal the cottonball looking things you spray the fuel on.

Use lighter fluid like Ronsonol.

Great. Do I need to wet the exposed wick with fluid too?

>> No.418466

>>418465

No, the wick will wick the fluid up.

Zippos general? I found a lighter on the side of a hill I was walking on a few months ago, it works great but I've noticed it runs out of fuel pretty quickly if I leave it idle. I.e. if I fuel up another Zippo and leave it for a week it'll still light, but if I leave this one all the fuel will have evaporated or whatever by then. I've tried replacing the wadding, that didn't help. Anything else it could be?

Is it a real Zippo or a knock off? Does everything seal well? Is it *taking* the same amount of fluid as the other lighter? What condition is the wick in?

>>418528

Real Zippo. How do you mean "seal well". Yeah, it takes about the same amount of fuel. The wick is also new.

i went to cvs and two gas stations and no butane. i didnt have time to go anwhere else. fuck. ill ill go again tomorrow. I wanna see this baby light up

The insert of the lighter (the bit that holds the wadding) should slide into the body snugly and there should be no gaps. Turn the lighter upside down with the lid open and shake the lighter. If the insert falls out or fluid leaks out you've got problems. Lighter fluid will evaporate very quickly with even a small opening or gap.

NOT BUTANE.

It is a liquid fueled lighter.

Could a Zippo be ANY simpler to troubleshoot?

Just go in a CVS and they should have lighter fluid behind the counter. Make sure you don't lose the flint when you're filling it, I did that the first time I filled mine.
