I built some PVC parallettes using 40mm piping, as in pic related, but they're wobbly and generally unstable. Not from side-to-side, but forwards and backwards.
I even wrapped the ends of the pipes with electrical tape so the fit is as tight as possible, but apparently to no avail.

What do you think would be the best way of stabilising them? Bridging from the horizontal bar to the vertical bars with something? Or building some out of wood?

You did glue them right?
Try metal pipe instead of PVC if you did glue it

Yeah I glued them. First without the added tape--which didn't work--and then with the added tape.

My better-than-me-at-diy-friend just suggested metal pipe aswell. He also suggested I put them on 4-inch spacers in a wooden box and pour a concrete block around each one. I'm really considering the latter.

If you were able to take them apart and add tape after gluing them, you didn't do it right.

PVC "glue" is actually a solvent that welds the joint, and if applied properly it is essentially impossible to pull apart. The pipe and joint will shatter long before that happens.

Go to the home store and ask for guidance, someone should be able to point you to the right stuff (even better find a hardware store that has been around for 50 years+, they always have guys that know their shit).

I can testify to this. I had to wreck a pipe to remove it from a joint.

Thirding this, Fucked up gluing pvc in the wrong place so many times.Tried knocking them apart with punches and chisels never works, always shatters into a million pieces.

I see. Thanks. I'll look up on how to use the glue properly.

The piping joints I used came with end joints that move around and a circular rubber washer/band. I've taken those bits off and it seems rather more stable already.

You should not use PVC pipes because of the weight you're gonna put on it. If it breaks it will shatter a little bit like glass. Use steel pipes. you can buy already threaded ones at plumber dispensaries with fittings to go with it.

How can I testify? I'm a plumber.

They'll be fine as long as it's schedule 40 or higher. Short lengths of PVC can be very strong. I built a ladder in my shed out of 1.5" schedule 40, and my 300lb friend climbed it no problem (well, other than the problem of being out of breath climbing an 8ft ladder since he's a fatass)

Definitely a problem with the gluing.
