what causes leather to discolor this badly? just age?

also, that looks like cheap vinyl from the 70s, i have some in my garage i was going to dye black and use to recover the seats in my truck.

Ha. I should've realized, it probably is vinyl. I believe this thing is almost 30 years old now.

You can buy dyes at most auto-parts stores, they're usually with the spray paint and say that thy'll work on vinyl or plastics. all you do is spray them on like regular spraypaint, but it will actually penetrate part way so it wont rub off.

cool man. this thing thats discolored is an standalone drink bar unit with two swivel chairs..kinda like a almost semcircle thing with shelves on the bartender side and bunch of vinyl padding on the seat side, bar stools are just as discolored, but it will have to pass for now.

tl;dr good to know its fixable, idk if i'll get this restored anytime soon lol

whatever it was that caused it, it seemed to be something the leather had steady and frequent exposure to.

Light. moisture, maybe?

Maybe the leather was pre treated with chemicals that lead to this?

There are buttloads of products for leather.. if you have any... less desirable pieces from that set that are not usable, test some restorative stuff out on that, and work from there..
