That's a cheapo coaxial car speaker in the center. It probably sounds like shit. What you ought to do is go to Parts Express, and look for some compression horn drivers. It's less "antique", but you could still make some retro-looking speakers that sound nice with enough creativity.

physically, it looks like two old stamped or spun metal pots or bowls. the outer one is an odd shape, but the rear one looks just like a bowl. there's a flanged ring coupling the two.

that would be the hard part; in 2012 you'd just stick a loudspeaker inside it.

the base you could probably make from an old music or microphone stand.

har, in the right-most pic is sure looks like there's a car stereo speaker in there with blue cone! so this is probably a reproduction.

learn to look at things differently -- you have to flip your vision from the whole to it's parts. the 'whole' is an illusion -- even modern stuff is basically made from components assembled, and your brain sees 'TV set' or whatever and stops looking at the details...
