Hey /diy/, I was in /fa/ posting pics of my room in a /fa/'s room thread.

Anyways I got some pretty bad feedback and was wondering if you guy's could help me out?

Was thinking of making my own bookcase or tv stand. Something like cinder blocks stacked with wooden board every now and then.

Would this be cool? Anyone got pics or how to do guides for stuff like this?

Also looking to make some cool kind of bed platform.

Pic very fucking related.

Please help, hopeful virgin that wants to be able to bring women over.

>> No.353220

Step 1) Make bed
Step 2) Clean and wash the floors
Step 3) Hang a few pictures and/or a calendar on your wall

and unless you're intending to date your 3-rd cousin and currently drive a beat-up ford pickup, cinderblocks are still for building houses not furniture

kay guess that was a bad idea, what would you suggest?

Also I live in cali so am not a redneck.

Am a teenager, think hanging up random paintings wont be much of an improvement either, because I doubt my taste in paintings will be good at all.

Floors were just washed but unpacking boxes from just having moved in made it look bad I guess.

Just went from a 1200 sq ft home to 2800 so I don't have enough furniture for all this.

Any picture of significance, maybe some diplomas, anything works.
If it is your own house/room, i'd invest in a new wallpaper, also a TV in the bedroom is occasionally considered bad for your sex life.

As for a bookcase, maybe something like that?

Google is your friend for the most part, also there are tons of interior design blogs out there to obtain ideas from. and then, when you have a CERTAIN idea of what you want, and you can't find a tutorial on google, /diy/ is the place for that

Found something I like, can I come by /diy/ and just ask for your opinion? Like or not kind of thing?

First guy to reply said it was a bad idea, red neck-ish, but I think it looks acceptable, what do you guys think?

Few cinder blocks and a nice looking piece of wood and I think I'm i business

The cinder blocks do like kind of ghetto. The ladies will not be impressed.

Maybe at the very least throw coat of paint on them so they don't look like something you just picked up off a construction site?

Really though, if you're just looking for cheap furniture, keep your eye out on craigslist. I see people giving away decent stuff in the free section all the time, but there's also people selling slightly better stuff for cheap.

Cinder blocks are tough to pull off well... If your room not neat and tidy, cinder blocks make you look like a poorfag. It helps to have something very stylish or expensive in the room to emphasize that the cinder blocks were used by choice to make a statement.

Or you could be awesome, and go clean minimalist. Mount your tv to the wall, hide all wires in the wall, mount speakers to the wall. Put some plant life in there. Get an Xbox360, and a family pack of condoms for all the tang you'll be pulling.

Clean your room, especially the carpet. But anyway...Ditch the faux regency chair, its just going to accumulate dirty laundry, you can sit on the bed if you get some throws and cushions, you can use it as a couch. Get an area rug to de-emphasize the shit-brown color of the carpet. Hang *something* on the walls, you need to bring a little personality in there. The cinder-block book-shelf is lame, but there are plenty of cool recycled-material furniture projects online.

Between the shit everywhere and the brick and board "furniture" it looks liek a hobo's dwelling.

Where the light comes in it should strike the floor, reflects light into the room, more cheery.
plants
replace laundry chair with laundry basket
area rug
ditch tv
ONE ornate centerpiece, a dressing mirror is a good buy (free in most cases)

OP here again, still in the process of moving in but decided I'd post a pic of what I've decided to do so far.

The bed looks like shit, I know, can't find any of my covers in the garage atm so I just have blankets piled up all over it.

Brought in some furniture, lemme know what you guys think.

I'm a 19 year old full time student atm, was home schooled before this so I have no idea what people my age have in their rooms.
Again gonna take shitty pics with laptop cam cuz I'm too embarrassed to ask my sister for her cam, because she's gonna ask what for.

What ya think guys?

No idea what to put on the wall though, all I have at hand are random vidya/chinese cartoon posters, which I'm throwing away not hanging.

What would you suggest?

And sorry if this is the wrong board but I respect peoples opinions here more then any other board.

You really need something for your walls. Go to goodwill or whatever, buy some cheap frames, stain them, and put some art in there.

Otherwise, your room looks normal now.

I have some random wall decoration stuff in the garage, it's not painting nor poster.

It's just like random objects. Some metal some wood, would that be alright?

I'll go look for them and post a pic maybe.

Don't wanna hang up as an example because I don't wanna make a shit ton of holes.

I would make my room look kinda like a night club. It could be done cheap, dim/ neon lights would distract people from what is really in the room, and you can call it "style" instead of "empty wallet".

Cinder block furniture is a good idea for being cheap and sturdy. However, cider blocks will fuck up your floors unless they are concrete. When cider blocks are placed on concrete (and moved around) they denigrate and leave little bits of rock EVERYWHERE. I know this because I used to live in an unfurnished basement.

If you need a book shelf then go to Lowes/ Home Depot/ whatever and get a few boards, an L shaped bracket, and black wood stain.

Bed room furniture: Go to walmart and get a cheap bed set (fitted sheet, dust ruffle, pillow cases, blanket, ect) that is mostly black and maybe silver or dark blue. You can support the box frame of a bed on milk crates and no one will ever know. Then you get a sheet of ply-wood, cut it to the same width as your bed, cover it with a cheap black fabric (tacks on the back side), stuff it with a few bags of cotton, and mount it above the bed as a bed board. A wall mounted TV is a good idea to keep the walls from looking too barren.

The night cub idea: Mirrors make a room look bigger so buy one for about $10 with a silver frame and attach it to the back of your bed room door. Next you can pick up two 12 inch black lights and mount them in the upper corners of the wall. Just plug them into a wall outlet and forget about wiring. Lastly I would go to the mall or a head shop and buy 2 black light posters. Get M.C. Esher style black light posters with a little bit of taste. Ignore the other black light posters that make you look like a burnout or a juggalo.

The trick to getting women to stay in your room is to have a neat and tidy room. If you live like a slob with food crumbs on the floor the women will GTFO way before sexy times.

>>353700
I also suggest that you try to make your house smell nice before any women come over. Febreze is your friend. Also, go to the store and pick u a few scented candles of the same scent. Im not saying that you have to buy a "My Vagina is Pink. Jasmine and Wild Flower scent." but a neutral Vanilla Bean or Clean Cotton scent will help you. Good luck on the new place

pretty much this.
If you feel like doing a little more work for your book shelf, you can save money by finding a hardwood dealer. They will sell you hardwood for a much better price then lowes and home depot can with the exception of pine panels.
Ie. you can make a pine or plywood bookcase at lowes or home depot for about 45 at the lowest, 80-90 at teh higher end. Buying wood from a lumber supplier(they sell by board foot, spend an hour doing design), you can make your own for about the same price, but have a nice wood like oak, walnut, or cherry. Some woods will still be out of your price range. You'll also have a nice woody smell in your room, not like rotting wood, fresh wood smell, it's nice.

You'll need:
Plans - can you draw a rectangle with shelves. Make sure you plan it out and keep in mind board thickness
Hand saw - it's more difficult but if you have no power tools then it can be easier.
Pencil- for drawing lines
Ruler/square- for making straight lines and measuring
Screws/nails - Nails will work, but if you have a drill or can borrow one, it'll make your life easier
hammer/drill - see above
Wood Glue - it'll keep the shelf a little more stable
