Not so handy at full night in the wood, except maybe for finding the flashlight inthe tent

I meant storing the flashlight on your belt, rather than fishing around for it in bag/pockets.
Also, most of your list is overkill. Kuriki for an average scouting trip? Also, you aren't even "supposed" to have fixed blade/sheath knives in scouting.
What trip is this where you need a kuriki?

>> No.349098

not particularly the kukri but one of the three machettes, at summer camp we often have to cut bushes grass and all these cleaning things.

And for the camp knife i've broke too much knive, i would like to keep that for a long time.

Replace 550 paracord with fireman's escape rope (7.5mm technora cord). Rated to 4000 pounds, can be used as a lifeline, so worth the extra cost. Also get a rigger's belt (aka emergency rappel belt) and a few climbing carabiners to properly utilize the escape rope.

The paracord that amazon sells is not military grade. The real stuff is higher quality but its a little bit harder to find and a little bit more expensive. In my opinion its worth it to buy quality but it depends on what you are going to use it for.

Get yourself five to six hundred feet of cheapish manila rope; it's great for teaching kids how to tie knots (you won't want to be buying more paracord for that) and works great for lashings.

Also look into buying 6mil poly sheeting; it''s far cheaper than tarps and can be used for many of the same things, it will also come in larger sizes.

You also will need a first aid kit, if you don't already have one.

Also get some books (or just read up) on local wildlife; it's good to know when the deer or elk will be acting crazy and what snakes give the bad bites.

>>349095
>Also, you aren't even "supposed" to have fixed blade/sheath knives in scouting.

That's not true, you just have to get your toten' chit and you're fine. Unless I'm out of date; wouldn't surprise me too much, scouting seems to be in the process of being taken over by soccer moms/dads and fundies.

>>349261
>>machete
>are you kidding me?
>>scouting
>>leave no trace
>have you even read anything?

When I was in scouts/OA I used a machete fairly frequently for trail projects (upkeep of trails or making new ones--sometimes even in state parks and once in a national park) as well as conservation projects (removal of brazilian pepper trees/other invasive plants, clearing of mangrove corridors of debris) and also for other people's Eagle projects. Though I never had anything as fancy as the OP's machetes.

Also Leave No Trace is trail etiquette, it isn't practical or reasonable to follow everywhere. The scouts believe in conservation, not preservation (ie clear an area of brush and rocks to make a campground and disallow setting up tents elsewhere except for special circumstances to prevent saplings in other areas from being harmed.)

The only advice I ever have for a boyscout.

Leave the organization. It's pure fucking evil, you idiotic homophobic monster.

Yes yes, this should be a "omg, it's all about tools and knowledge thread, because it's DIY" but fuck that.

If you're in the scouts, you are giving the scouts money, ergo financially supporting one of the largest organizations that indoctrinate small children into homophobia.

Pretty sure faggots wanting to fuck ass holes is the problem. Scouting is fine, of all the things you could bitch about in scouting, being homophobic is not one of them. Tolerance does not equal acceptance, some day a cure for faggotry will be found, and you brain damaged tards will finally be able to grasp that simple concept.

Boy scouting is about being a better person, learning to do stuff, and how to lead or properly work under a leader. Sexuality has nothing to do with this and shouldn't be factored in. Some fag prancing around shouving their sexual choice onto strangers is simply unacceptable. You're here, you're queer, get over it.

The thinner stuff will wear out pretty quickly but if you get the .6mil poly it's pretty thick and will hold up almost as well as a tarp. It's also a fraction of the price.

It won't replace all your tarps or anything, since there are things that tarps are better for, but I would definitely suggest buying one just to see how well it holds up.

I think more essential than the gear you listed, is bringing scouting back to the basics in your troop if possible.

Too many troops seem to be just Eagle mills with little regard for actual achievement, knowledge about the outdoors and survival, or even leadership skills. Just giving them a framework to work within is enough. What part of the country are you in OP? That also changes some of your gear you might want. As well as if this is for car camping, short hikes, or longer backpacking trips.

>>349339
>If you're in the scouts, you are giving the scouts money, ergo financially supporting one of the largest organizations that indoctrinate small children into homophobia

You clearly don't know anything about the scouts. We had gay kids in our troop, no issue with them at all. The only people we had issue with were the pussies that would whine and bitch and moan needing to do work to get their achievements and leadership done.

The only way to change the organization is from within, boycotting scouting will in no way change it. The problem currently is that the mormons are such a large part of the organization so due to their numbers and money they have a large sway in certain policies, however in the end it all comes down to local councils.

>> No.349919

>>349907

There's nothing wrong with being gay, it's like having any other fetish or quirk, as long as you keep it to yourself. That isn't homophobia, that's just common decency. Unfortunately, that's something a lot of "new" gays don't understand. Boy scouts don't get together and cry about their problems like women do. They get together to get shit done. This is why many so called homosexual rights advocates have so much trouble understanding such basic concepts: they dont just want to get fucked like women, they think like women.

Talking about sex is not an appropriate activity for scouts or their leaders. Scouting is segregated specifically so the boys can focus on their tasks and not get into conflict over girls like young boys tend to do. If the mormons want to say no gays allowed, that's perfectly alright. No scout or leader should be going around telling people they fuck men in the ass in the first place, just like the straight scouts and leaders dont go around talking about having sexual relations with women in the missionary position.

For homosexuals, this is a problem. Because really, what is a fag other than someone who goes around bragging about how they like cock or vagina? Take away the public identify of a homosexual and they are just a regular person. And regular people don't get all the special rights and attention.

Personally, I grew up with 2 aunts. It never occurred to me that they were lesbians, because they were part of the old guard. They didn't waste everyone's time telling everyone they met that they were carpet munchers. They never had any issues with their homosexuality because they never flaunted it like some fucking badge of courage.

You probably already know this, but wanted to add:

One of the best things you can do for your troop is finding volunteer work for them to do. Plenty of areas will have something they need done if you just give them a call; you can usually find a variety of interesting projects to turn into a service day or even a full weekend.

Working on stuff was one of the most fun parts of scouting for me (especially as I got older), and definitely one of the most rewarding parts. It's probably also why I enjoy working now; the group aspect of the volunteer projects likely helped a lot in teaching the younger me that working could be fun.

From what I've heard lots of troops nowadays hardly lift a finger until it's time for someone to do a project to get their Eagle. And that's a damn shame.
