Not to hijack this thread, but I've been a /cgl/ regular and I've been emailing moot for about a year asking for DIY.

We do have garment making threads on /cgl/ on a fairly regular basis, but one of the reasons why I, personally, would not discourage them here at least for the time being is that it would be nice to get help and perspective from people who may know about garment making and tailoring who would otherwise not normally go to /cgl/ which is in fact a shithole.

My advice for anyone coming to ask about garment construction or things of that nature would be to double post on cgl and diy. It will become apparent over a short period of time which board has the best advice on that topic and in time those threads can be directed to that location. But for now I think it's too early to see. I'm also hopeful that a lot of the crafty people who don't participate in the shit fest that is cgl may come here, and I've noticed volpin, an experienced prop maker and artificer has already been posted.

So, I know we are all excited about /diy/ but let's not get so angry right away about posts that may "belong" on another board until this board gets a little more broken in.

I'm really happy this board was finally made, I don't know why I woke up at 7am and decided to look at 4chan on my 3DS but when I saw moot's message I jumped out of bed and screamed "TODAY IS CHRISTMAS!" and consequences were never the same.

Ah, fuck that noise.

Got some metalworking skills and a plumber's torch? Then try the following.

1. Acquire a pair of German welding goggles (Restoration Hardware, the metal things). You also need some brass sheet or 2" diameter brass tube. Also silver brazing rod and flux. You should acquire some leather and brass rivets too. A buckle, if you feel fancy.

2. Remove all rubber parts from the goggles. Keep the headband, you might need it.

3. Remove the side shields. You'll need a side cutter to remove the rivets. Also remove the leather nosebridge, or you'll burn it later.

4. Shape the tube or sheet. In case of sheet, use the flattened side shields as a template. In case of tube, cut diagonally with either a metal saw or a dremel cutting disk.

5. For a sheet, punch holes where the rivets should go. Use the ´lens holder as a template, you want to fit it. Rivet it on. For a tube, unscrew the lenses and braze the tubes on the lens holder frame. You want to use them as side shields, so treat them accordingly.

6. Punch more holes, to rivet leather to the side shields. Also cut slits, to fit the headband. Rivet the leather in place.

7. Put the nosebridge and headband back on.

8. ???

9. PROFIT!

Picture somewhat related, that monoggle was made that way.
