Is it possible to modify a network adapter for the Xbox so it works in my laptop?
Or am I being a fag and not realising I can do it anyways?
Couldn't choose whether to post here or /g/.
Pic related.

sell it on ebay and buy a new regular one
they fetch 50-60 bucks nowadays

likely it's made with some commodity chip, and the OS will fidn a driver for it.

have you even tried it? it's not like it will catch on fire or something.

That defeats the spirit of /diy/ though.

I would think all you would need to do is install the proper drivers and it should be compatible assuming you're on a windows machine.
Just plug it into your comp and find out the hardware IDs
Google the drivers needed to make that device work on your specific machine

I tried it, it 'failed to find driver'

I understand that, but with the short supply of those things for people with the old Xboxs and the superior performance of a new adapter, its not worth fucking with.

That's a good point!

Good point indeed good sir.
I would still try making it compatible just to see if it can be done if I were OP though.

>spirit of /diy/
So the so-called "spirit of DIY" is to be stupid about your time and money? Especially time? Unless you're a Kay Iye Dee who is still in school, time is your most valuable commodity, something not to be spend doing stupid things. Trying to modify (read as: DESTROYING) a specialized wifi adapters is stupid. Buying a correct one is not stupid. Stop doing stupid things with your time and spend your time doing smart things.

What you view as productive and what I view as productive may be two very different things.

> spirit diy... time money

umm, YES, in fact. this isn't a fucking factory, 'efficiency' is not a human goal. yeah, it may be dumb, but so what? try it, no harm done. whats the big deal? its just USB, it wont break when you stick it inna hole on a peecee. sheesh.

it may be that selling on ePay and buying another is worth it -- but maybe not, with all the shippign and hassle you might "save" $5. research will tell.

'productive', sheesh, y'all have been colonized. learning, fun, curiosity, whatever.

/diy/ not /efficiency/

You can't use it on your PC. IIRC, There was a wifi chip in the XBox (even fat ones) and the adapter worked purely a an antenna. Someone figured this to be because although he had used several different adapters, his XBox kept the same MAC address.

Sell it, if you don't need it, and get an actual Wi-Fi card

i'm dissapointed with you /diy

We aren't here to give anon a better way to do what he wants, we're here to tell him how to do it the way he wants.

The whole appeal of doing stuff yourself is that you arent just getting someone else to do it for you. simple stuff

Op i have nothing to contribute on the subject matter

No, Anon. There are many reasons to diy stuff.
One very common reason is the lack of money or unwillingness to use money. Such diyers tend to be receptive for better suggestions.
Same with dudes who are attempting something stupid or difficult just because they don't know how to do it better way.

How about the reverse, anons? I have 2 extra wifi routers. Could I use those on my Xbox?

Also, if Anon paid for shipping I would send him one of my spare adapters
