ok guys, anyone have any plans to make a skinner box for a mouse? (Psychology related). I need to build one for my class...

Why would you DO that?!

Nope because I'm a moral fag against this kind of thing.

>> No.33542

drop the electric aspect.
Simple lever connected to drop the food pellet when signalled.

to test basic stimuli/response behavior.

ITS FUCKED UP OP, AND I WILL SAGE!

Wait, what the hell does this thing do? It looks like it gives simple treats when the mouse presses the right button?

How is that wrong? Or are you guys just against animal testing?

>> No.33558

>>33548
Yeah, I know

BTW OP don't be a lazy faggot, it's easy, use your fucking brain or at least google

>> No.33561

OP here
I don't mean that it has to have an electric grid on the botom... I simply want to operantly condition a mouse to press a button to recieve food... I dont want to hurt the mouse...

Troll?

It would respond faster with electric grid, but if you only want to starve the mouse don't add it

you just wanna understand stimuli/response?

well i hope you use that knowlege to some thing usefull and MORAL! either way i will not help you. therse been enough envieromental psycology now.

>> No.33579

i realize this... but I simply want to train the mice in this first. I have a real world application for them...

>> No.33589

how about using flash light to blind the mice instead of shocking him?

its definitively more "humane" and if done right it wont really hurt.

>> No.33594

1. Train mouse to pull lever to receive food
2. Modify toilet lever to carry out its primary function, flushing, and to provide the mouse with food.
3. ???
4. PROFIT!!!!1!!

>> No.33595

nothing about this is unethical...

>> No.33600

true, and the negative stimulus would still quicken the behavior acquisition

>> No.33605

>>33595
its the schocking part that is unethical.

its like your parents decided to potty train you by giving you treats and electrifying the bathroom floor.

>> No.33606

>>33579
making a macro brain were you train some mice to sort out some tasks and other to sort out others?

get some plywood, a speeaker, a few "sockets" for your collord lights and a tube for "treats". training multiple mouses in this way would need some automation as "revard" your "individuals" on a response basis. get a engeneer student to help you.. not sure he will thoug....

>> No.33610

recreating a project that was done years ago and had enough results to

A. figure out what was being asked
B. prove its inhuman

>> No.33613

Do you really need the shock pad? I saw a skinner box that only had two buttons that the animal could press. One would give them small amounts of food, while the other would give them a larger amount but it would come about 5 seconds later. I don't really care the humane shit, but i'm just saying that you don't need to put so many electronic shit on it that could make it much harder to make.

It's about instant gratification vs. waiting for a higher reward.

hey this is actualy nice, i think i heard something like that for humans with chocolate bars.

OP could work with treats and food too. cheese or ration could still train the mice

>> No.33627

Im not testing the concepts behind it. we all know it works. i simply want to teach some rats to perform certian tasks...
and I hadnt thought of the macro brain idea, but that does sound cool

>> No.33647

its not an out dated concept. its simply a way to train animals to perform tasks...
hell, you dont need to electrify the ground to operantly condition an animal

>> No.33654

There are two ways to go about conditioned learning/response. One is through pain and other is through food. As suggested, it could just be simple buttons with food dispensers that only give them food if they press the right buttons. You can make them do sequences of buttons or maybe they have to press the buttons multiple times before the food would come out. I've seen this done with pigeos and other animals but i'm not sure if mice are capable of understanding this concept. Another method could be actual punishment (like the shock pad) if the mice get it wrong.

Does it have to be fully automatic? If not, you could just have the buttons connected to some leds that would light up some leds or make a sound (which I think is better since the sound itself is another stimuli that the animals could get used to), and then you can just dispense the food yourself via a hole or tube in the box.

>> No.33666

>>33654
true, the lack of full automation is possible... I was simply hoping that someone some where had the schematics for making one since i was unable of finding any myself.
