How can I start making music if I haven't before?

I just want to experiment and spend my free time seeing if this is something I'd be good at. I know this is a broad question, as is intended. I just want any words of advice. I just want to do something new for my own enjoyment.

Ukulele is by no means the easies, people make the mistake of thinking "it has only 4 strings should be easy"
It's technically harder to play then guitar, as its hard to get it to sound good - with only 4 strings, you have less of a broadness of notes, and need to be good to get the right sound.
But you can learn on it - just know, lessons are hard to find. Join a local ukulele club, if there is one in your area.
I started on a guitar (acoustic), and had lessons. But you can find a "teach yourself guitar" book anywhere. I personally know people who started on an electric, without lessons, and they could out play me on guitar after a couple months.
I made the switch to ukulele - Never going back.

TL;DR Ukulele is by no means the easiest to start with, guitar is probably easier as there is more help/lessons available. I pay ukulele, and I know hate playing guitar, I don't have the control over so many strings.

For electronic music, there's also LMMS.
And if you don't want to invest much money, get a diatonic harmonica in C-Major (other names for the same type are Richter-tuned or blues harp), look up the basic techniques on youtube and get your tabs from harptabs.com .

OP, buy a cheap e-guitar and an amp.
Buy a book full of tabs, not musical scores. You just have to put your fingers on the point the tab shows you. Is as easy as fapping and you can play whole songs after an hour of practicing
