I know there was a longboard thread not too long ago but unfortunately I was unable to join in on it. So anyway, I am in woodshop right now for school and I am thinking about designing and creating a longboard. I have approx. 8 weeks left of the class which leaves me plenty of time to work. So /diy/ what shape (design and dimensions included) should i make for a cruising board?

tl;dr I'm building a longboard and need a design for cruising.

>inb4 google it. I did, just wondering what you guys thought.

a few guides on there.

best buying guide i have found. read it, decide what you like, then build one of the boards it suggests with the techniques the guide used

shaping plywood is hard. you need some crazy presses. but i suppose you could try to laminate some wood into a mould as if it were fibreglass.

longboard is the wrong board

made some myself. very easy. If you want a sick cruiser thats aesthetically pleasing and easy to push I would make a drop deck longboard. all you needto do is cut blocks of sytrofoam to shape, get wood sheets and glue em together, but before they dry put them in the foam and put some wood on the top and bottom of the foam and clamp and wait. sorry for the run on sentence

Not sure if this is what you're after, but here goes. I'm no skater, but I did once make a sandboard in a woodworking class. We used a thick steel guide which was basically a skateboard shape with really exaggerated curves. We made the deck by laminating together layers of shit tier plywood, and then clamping to the steel shape while the glue was wet enough between the layers that they could slide a little. Once we had the upward curves set, we used a compass to mark the shape we wanted (you could draw freehand if you don't want the small scale skateboard shape). Then it was cut with bandsaw/jigsaw, the corners rounded off with a router. After that, I'm sure you could treat it like any board, and buy some tape+trucks+wheels.

I don't usually post on /diy/ only browse threads that interest me. Do you not have to noko?

i don't plan on curving the board that much. maybe alittle down curve but that is it.

I thought about doing a drop deck but i don't know how to approach it without snapping plywood. Also what do you mean by the whole styrofoam thing? are you using it as the core??

i would always put in a slight dip in the middle just for extra flex.
