I know that some of you do it, and I know it can be done.
So let's all share secrets.

Hard mode-no car

>> No.255495

There are too many 'how do I get money without work?' threads.

I make flash games. It is considerably more than a 40 hour work week....and 99.99% of people who try to do this fail.

My father also didn't have a 9-5 job.....he was a decorator/handyman.

There are no easy options.

Link me to the archive?

I'm not a programmer, I doubt that could work for me though it does sound interesting.

>There are no easy options.
Life's not easy. I don't want something easy, I want something I can do.

>> No.255512

do you have any money or property or skills to start with
if not, get thee hence to Burger King

>> No.255514

Might not be exactly what you want to hear. I started as a carpenter and now am a contractor. I hire younger, inexperienced guys, train them and then have them do a majority of the work for me. It takes time and isn't easy at all, but its very profitable for me. I spend most of my time finding work, bidding and checking the jobs. I do drive alot but maybe only put in 20-25 hours a week and usually make 6 figures or just under a year.

>> No.255515

buy shit at thrift stores, flip on ebay. get your numbers right and you can easily bring in $2k a month. my current employer makes about $2k a week on eBay, but he runs his eBay people into the ground. He doesn't do that to me because I have skills and I can walk away any time that I want to.

I've got a thousand hustles, but none of them paid off without a heaping of good work. The 9-5 is dull and boring, but you don't have to worry about money if you live within your means. I've had months where I was close to the poverty line and working 60+ hours a week.

The only way that you can have a sustainable (fuck this buzzword btw) income is to set up a system that is profitable. look into drop shipping and e-commerce websites, ebay, craigslist, etc.

>> No.255520

Either learn to live with less money or do something that makes you lots of money. A combination of both is always good.

>sustainable income

That is extremely subjective. For instance, all my bills per month are less than $200 and that includes food. I can do this because I'm completely 100% debt free.

>> No.255552

>>255512
no money, but I can safely say I have quite a few 'skills'. nothing especially practical though.

>>255514
You know, that's pretty whatever.
Fuck, it you were paying more than & 10/hour I'd work for you.

>>255515
okok.
Flipping shit on eBay doesn't sound bad, but I rarely see stuff that can go for alot.
How do you decide what to purchase? Whatever looks good?
I'm guessing you're not buying alot of clothes and shit, or are you?

>>255520
Well, I live with my parents atm, but I want to move out ASAP.
I live in So. Cal.
I don't have any debt, but I'm going to guess that once living by myself my expenses would be something like 2-300/month, not including rent.

>> No.255553

>>255520
I want to make about 1-2k a month.
Ideal would be 3-5k, but I'd need a decent business for that.

>> No.255563

>>255552
Flipping shit on ebay/amazon isn't about breaking the bank on one purchase. I get a lot of cheap stuff and sell it for a little less cheap. I make anywhere between 50 cents and 4 dollars on a regular purchase. Sometimes I get lucky and make 10 to 50 dollars, but that's rare.

I stay away from clothes, but that's a personal preference. Go with something you know about. Good with fixing broken electronics? Well, by god, find electronics at thrift stores that you think you can fix and fix them.

For example, I went to a local thrift store that had about 20 printers sold as is. I looked them over, found the ones that looked good, spent about $100 or 4 or 5 of them, did minor shit like cleaning them, etc., and then sold them all for about $100 to $200 each. The ones I couldn't get to work, I sold for parts and at least recouped my expenses. Some I even keep for future use.

TL;DR Stick with something you know, don't try to make crazy money, expect some disappointments.

>> No.255570

>>255563
>TL;DR Stick with something you know, don't try to make crazy money, expect some disappointments.
I can deal with disappointment, and I just want to be comfortable.

When you say 'Stick to something you know' you mean with my purchase, right?
Or overall?

I'm trying to think about what I know alot about, and I'm drawing a black, I know a moderate amount about a bunch of shit, but Idk if I'm really an expert on anything.

>> No.255607

>>255570
Yes, I meant your purchase. When I say "stick with what you know" in relation to a purchase, I mean know about how much it sells for, if it's broken, know how to fix it, know if it's a knock-off, know when to pass it up, know a great deal when you see it, etc. It takes a bit of practice, but if you start small so you don't lose much if you make a bad call, that experience will help you out. I'm no where near the guy who is making $2k a week, or even $2k a month, because I do it more as a hobby and not a real job, but I make about $400 just bullshitting.

>> No.255635

CL is okay, but you're better off using a freelancing website like oDesk or something like that. You technically have to go through them to get paid, but there's nothing stopping you from exchanging info with a client and just having them PayPal you the cash after you finish projects for them.

Telecommuting is the way to do it, as long as you've got a laptop with wifi you can literally work anywhere, and talking with clients is easy as hell. Between Skype and email, I've known a guy for going on 3 years who pays me around $20k a year, and we've never met because he lives in the UK.

Get a job (the best you can). Then save as much as you can until you have a deposit for house. Get an interest only loan. You want to save up enough of a deposit so that:

Weekly interest on loan + expenses (water, city rates) = Rent income

So now you have a property that pays for itself, but you're not getting any passive income. So now you forget about it and go back to working and saving your money.

Once you have enough money for another property, you repeat the process.

But how do I get any passive income if the rent matches the expenses? You don't, at least not initially.

I 5 years time, inflation will have eaten away at the value of the loan. So if you borrow $100k, it won't have the same buying power as $100k in 5 years. So if you were originally paying $100 week in interest (and assuming interest rates are the same) you would be paying $100 a week after 5 year. However that $100 is less in real money (e.g. you will probably be earning more than you did 5 years ago).

Secondly, you have probably raised the rent at multiple times over the 5 years to keep inline with inflation. So instead of renting it out for $200 a week at the start, it's now $250.

Hopefully (although maybe not likely in the USA) the price of the property has gone up. Maybe it's worth an extra $10k. So you borrow that extra $10k from the bank and use it to buy another property.

You repeat the whole process until you have about 10 properties. At the point the small incremental rent increases each year are enough to live on and the property value keeps going.

I'm doing this right now in Australia. I get $420AUD a week from one property and am about to buy a second proprty which will bring in $330AUD.

This sounds brilliant.

More examples? I just worry about getting tenants, and having enough to purchase the house in the first place.

>> No.255854

>>255851
Sounds brilliant yes, but look at all the ppl who went bankrupt when the economy fell out.

This works starting out if you can be your own handyman. Because your tenants will call you to fix anything and everything. You need to be a plumber, an electrician, a carpenter, and a general contractor. I'm not saying you need a license in each of these, but you will wear that hat at some point.

Also god forbid if you get a bad tenant. They bring in their mangy mutt (even tho you have a no pet policy) and get fleas infested in the whole thing. Plus they tear up shit, they dont pay on time, or at all, you have to go through the lengthy process of eviction (which depending on what state can be truly a nightmare for the owner).

Yes, there are definite pros when everything works like it should, but there are definite cons as well. Educate yourself to both and be prepared.

that's what I'm going to do in about 4 years, after i finish my studies in the UK. My grandparents have a massive house, and a storage building next to it which is situated on 1448m2 of land. the land and the house will go to my mother and she will share it between us.
I have already talked about this with my grandad, and how the storage building will look like when I'm finished with it. A small house with a living room, kitchen and a toilet + 2 bedrooms upstairs. He has spent the last 5 years insulating it with 5cm of wool and another brick layer.
Also the main house can be split into 3 apartments, 1st floor 2nd floor and the attic. There is plenty of room in the garden for car storage and I was discussing the possibility of building a third house in the corner of the garden that's currently inhabited by 15 chickens.

All of this will happen providing I get a 9-5 job for a year or so and save my bones off. Then i can start renting it for some profit. Also i should say i'm a bit of a handyman so i can fix people's shit easily.

I dated a girl who lived entirely off garage sale and thrift store flipping. She did movies and clothes. She also sews and does crafty girly shit. She bought a dress and listed it on ebay. She listed it for a week, if it didn't sale she dropped it some. If it didn't sell in another week she took it down and used the fabric to make some hipster clothes or a doll or something. She did decently well.

I supplement my income by selling books online. Go to a large university and find where they have free books. Get a handy app for your phone to scan then ISBN and get the value of the book. I make a few thousand a year doing this. This is probably for 4 weeks a year.

Some people go a step further and buyback books from students and resell them for more. You need cash for this though.

Some people go even one step further and buy tons of books from garage sales and sell them on amazon for a penny and make a small profit off the shipping costs. This method requires a large volume though.

No problem. I started working for my dad, who is a contractor, during the summers but didn't learn much, so I started working with another local contractor. I basically told him if he could pay me 10 an hour I would work my ass off and learn the trade. It worked out well. He taught me to more or less build from dirt to finish. I try to do the same with my guys. We don't do much house building, but I try to at least get lots of framing and finish work so my guys get to learn those at the least. If you decide to take a route similar to mine try to find a reputable conractor who does a little bit of everything sometimes bigger ones will send you to school in exchange for 2 years of work. Despite applying and following up I've only gotten one interview, which I screwed up when asked what would keep me coming back to subway aside from a paycheck (a long silence followed by bullshit isn't a great answer). Anyway, I've been finding all kinds of shit I don't care about in my closet and selling it on ebay recently. It doesn't bring in much at all, but once I build some funds off of that I'll start keeping an eye out on craigslist and at thrift stores. That likely still won't be enough for a sustainable income, though. Just some spending money or, more likely, some money to save up while I look for a fucking job. Goddamn why would I need experience for a low tier retail slave job? Anyway, there's no simple answer if you don't have proficiency in anything. I stumbled upon buzztouch.com back when it was in beta and free, so i get to keep my free account.

then i spent about an hour making an app out of boredom. Another hour spent following the tutorials to setup the programs and compile the app for market upload.

Uploaded to the android market.

My app was the first of its kind, and it blew up quick, and now i make 5k - 6k a month on auto pilot. No job, do maybe 15 minutes of work a day responding to e-mails. App sells itself, and sits in the top 20 in its category.

Flipping is where its at.. But you have to spend money to make money
here's an example of what I did and what I earned...
Every summer there is a fireworks competition which includes about 4-5 countries that comes into town.. Depending on how they scheduling it can be a firework event every weekend..
What I did is I found a supplier where I was able to get 1000 glowstick bracelets for 40 dollars.. so I ordered 4 lots of 1000 bracelets at a total of 160 dollars. I then got a permit for 300 dollars to sell them in the zone where the even would take place.... I sold each bracelet at 2 dollars each (and that is completely lowballing it) Other people were selling at 5 dollars each.. In any event I would sell out quick.. Kids love it. People love it. and the price is perfect.
In the end other then the expenses of the permit and the purchase of the bracelets I made 8000 dollars. I would sell the bracelets before the fireworks would occur so I was in an out as soon as I sold out. Could of I have sold alot more... could I have sold them for more? hell ya... Hopes this gives you a little bit of an idea on how to earn money by doing virtually nothing.

I'm going to be specializing in social media consulting, both setting up and running local business's FB, twitter, etc, but also charging per hour examining what a business can do better. I'm planning on a large mailing of flyers or brochures and giving away 3 months of my services at no charge. After that, they can decide to keep me or go on their own. My hope in doing this is to both attract a large amount of potential clients quickly and gain a decent portfolio with which to attract new ones. Keep in mind I'm going to be doing this while working by full time job so I'm expecting late nights and lost sleep doing this. It should also be fairly low cost, setting up a sole proprietorship in my state is about $50, the flyers and mailing might be about $150-200, all I need is a laptop and maybe a few presentation materials (still working this detail out). Not sure why I'm posting this, maybe to get some feedback, but maybe to give someone out there an idea. Anyway, I don't really believe in free lancing unless you have a fair bit of capital together. Working 9-5 seems like a bitch, until you remember that you spend a lot of time sleeping and not being responsible for much (unless you go against company policy or are completely negligent).

I think an ideal scenario is finding a part time job (20 or so hours a week), that's nearby and you have some flexibility with hours.

From there, you aren't starving and have time to do whatever.

That's just my .05 though. It's a bitch to find part time jobs, which pisses me off.

Niche blogging/ website development..
I started out with those stupid 'blogger click 4 click /b/ posts" made a music blog, after a week or so of working on the blog and click for clicking with other people I made my first 100 bucks with google adsense.. I was like "damn holy shit internet money is real" so what ive started to do is I used that 100 dollars from google to buy domain names and website hosting.. So far so good. Niche blogs are pretty good money makers.. The ones making money get anywhere from 50-250k views per day, (my best one is #1 top slot on google so i get tons of organic traffic without any advertising) Some days ill make as little as 10 bucks and as much as 40-50 usd which is pretty damn good for a blog..

Tips:
Find a niche (something you can write about)
Buy a domain name (people dont visit FREE hosted websites as much)
Read about SEO and adsense placement
Dont put advertisements on your blog until you have 50 solid blog entries..
Thats all ive got for now, oh yeah i use wordpress usually just use a free theme and edit the graphics, background, banner to fit the niche, I use SEO plugins and some other plugins to add flair and submit to social media websites..

Im currently running 4 blogs, all different topics.. I have 3 more urls which im gonna start developing soon 2 are going to be blogs but ive got huge plans for one of the domains, it has NO website other then a blank page and its #2 on google in a 2 billion dollar a year industry so I honestly think this domain is worth some serious $$$ if its developed correctly, ( not a blog, probably an online marketplace.) Anyways if anyone needs help getting started post your skype here.. Any questions ask here too ill check in.. I dont mind helping people out, i might be looking for some partners, who knows maybe well make some really good cash if it takes off

All self-taught, and college was/is hilariously inadequate at teaching these things. I'm pretty much dropping out at this point.

I have had clinical depression for my entire life and recently got on Effexor which has improved my ability to work and focus, even though it costs me $250 out of pocket every month it's worth it

The last class at college I took the profs were interested in having me give a talk to the faculty about BGA and high speed pcb layout. I applied to Garmin (they make GPS units) and was turned down because my GPA sucks.

In short, college is a poor fit and being self-employed lets me do what I love, at the tradeoff of being responsible for finding opportunities and working 10 times harder to exploit them

Anyways I posted this on another website so I guess ill post it here. I started off selling video games that I had in storage. NES, SNES, N64, Genesis, PS, PS2, PC, XBOX, and XBOX360. I had about 200 altogether and they were
just taking up space. I only used Amazon, even though the rates are higher, because I find it less of a hassle than eBay. I made serious cash, so I turned it
into a hobby/part-time job. I increased my inventory by buying more games from personal friends of mine via Facebook/text/in-person. I tried not to Jew them too
much because they are actual friends of mine, and nothing will ruin a friendship faster than by fucking people out of money, so I kept the fact that I was reselling their shit to a minimum.

Eventually my sources started drying up, so I moved on to eBay. I started bidding on games after I figured how much I could make versus total expenses. I lost
a LOT of the auctions because I was an idiot and started bidding wars early on in the life of the auction. Then I got smart and started using an autosnipe
service. I started winning more often, but still lost plenty because I bid low enough to make a profit by reselling. I was making minimum profit, anywhere from
$1 to $2. It was some cash, but I'm greedy, so it wasn't enough for me.

So I expanded. I kept bidding on video games, but I started bidding on electronics, as well. And then I started adding completely random shit like printer ink,
kitchen appliances, computer accessories, books, etc. Still, it was too time consuming, so I started hitting up yard sales, thrift stores, pawn shops, and this store chain that buys and sells salvage of any kind (salvage = goods people return to stores, displays, excess inventory, and brand new items where only the packaging is damaged by water or smoke, etc.) for ridiculously low prices.

Yard sales are great because if someone puts it out for sell, they want to get rid of it and hope to make a little cash while doing it. Thrift stores are just the company version of a yard sale, and because their shit is usually just given to them, they don't care how much it sells for. Several thrift stores near me have stocks of books numbering in the thousands for a quarter each (I stocked up enough to fill two large bookcases for about $50 with an expected profit
of about $300-$500). Pawn shops usually overprice the shit out of their inventory. For example, one I went to recently had two boxes full of SNES games at $6
each. That was about $600 worth of mostly pure shit (think Super Play Action Football), but there were a couple decent carts in there. I told him that, and
managed to convince him to part with both boxes for $65. I sold the good titles for $200, and sold the shitty ones for a penny and made profit on the postage.
The salvage store is a fucking goldmine. I go every time they restock and drop about $150 worth on a variety of items and make a minimum 100% margin most of the time.

>> No.260518

>>260517
I recently expanded to Craigslist, and haven't made anything, but it all takes time. Most people sell their shit for ridiculously expensive because they are
idiots, but most are willing to haggle. Remember, you can always increase the price, but you can never go back down after you have. Low-ball them, but not too
much because people get butthurt. If you have patience, you will find good deals among the shit.

I live in a big college town and mass moving time has arrived, so I started dumpster diving and have found several great pieces of furniture that people are too
lazy to fix or they don't have enough room for it. I have also found electronics that take minimal effort to repair, and I am selling all the big pieces on Craigslist and the Craigslist-like page that my college sponsors.

This shit isn't easy, this shit isn't quick, this shit isn't clean, this shit takes patience, and if you learn from your mistakes and keep trucking, this shit will provide you with a living that is fun to achieve, will put money in your pockets, will increase your social skills, and will teach you the value of a motherfucking dollar.

There is no such thing as not having a 9-5 job. I just put my 2 weeks in for my current "9-5" to go full time internet marketing, I'm making from 3-5k a month depending on how things go for said month, and at this moment things are pretty much on auto pilot so i do very little work.

But that doesn't mean I'm floating free by any means. Methods will stop working, new things will be tested, I'll be doing 20 hour shifts revamping every few months.

There is no "easy money" method to work at home. It requires a LOT of planning, effort, testing, and thinking. You work like a dog to make something function how you want, use it while it works (SOME select few find something nice that works forever, but those methods are kept secret) then go back to the drawing board to make new plans or adjust as time goes.

It'stalented /diy/ershit, but it works.

- Get bike
- Buy 2 cans of spray paint: black, and white.
- Buy PLASTIC NUMBER STENCILS (PLASTIC. Not that paper shit that falls apart after 5 uses).
-Get cardboard or straight sheet plastic, about 4 sheets the size of the largest part of a cereal box.
-Go door-to-door
-"Howdy! I was wondering if you'd like me to spray your house numbers on the curb for $5. If you don't like it, I'll do it again for free until you're happy with the results. I'm trying to save up for college."
- takes like 2 minutes or less to do
- Usually 1 or 2 out of every 10 people want their numbers painted/repainted on the curb
- make like $20+ an hour, I usually make like $50
- If you do 2 peoples' houses AN HOUR, congrats, you just surpassed minimum wage.

-Go door to door
-Ask people if they have any recyclables they don't want, you're saving up for college and trying to be eco-friendly
-Would it be alright if I picked up recycling every week or two from you?
-So many bags of recycling you can't see the lawn in your backyard anymore
-Turn in for cash at recycling plant
-Save the fucking planet while you're at it
-KEEP WINE BOTTLES AND NICE CRAFT BEER BOTTLES
-Use glass cutter to score a STRAIGHT circle around the entire bottle
-boil water
-pour boiling water slowly over the score until the bottle heats up
-quickly (but gently) plunge into an ice bath
-sand down sharp edges
-sell on craigslist or ebay "Wine/Beer bottle glasses, $5 for 2"
-Wtf even more profit out of nowhere
-Popular with college students

OH, ALSO,

-in the middle of the night, go agri-pirating plants from peoples yards
-cut small branches off of popular decorative trees and bushes and shit
-dip end in rooting hormone
-plant in plastic milk jugs until they root
-sell for profit on craigslist

Seriously there's so much shit you can do.

1.Best Advice:
Know people.

A lot, a fucking ton, of jobs are acquired through word of mouth/friends/family knowing people. Holy fuck I can't stress it enough.

So many positions are filled or created this way. Learn to not be a social retard.

2.Second Best Advice
Go somewhere you are guaranteed a job.

EXAMPLES:
i.The fucking military
ii.USEFUL college degree(STEM) that must have internships
iii. Some sort of boom(i.e Yukon Gold Rush, Silicon Valley in the 90's. Oil Fields and Mines mostly today).

ii and iii both require money. You need to get a shitty job. You have to maximize savings and minimize costs. This means living a lower quality of life. You consume shitty things and working a shitty job. Cut unnecessary expensives. You pay too much for your cellphone. Fast food is a rip off and so are coffees.

College is expensive. You need to sign a 6/12 month lease and pay tuition, you need to stay on course for 3-4 years, which is a long term endeavor. Scholarships and bursaries help.

Moving to a boom place costs money. You need a place to live until you can get settled. Cost of living is artificially high in these places so it can be expensive.

The cold hard truth is good jobs are gone. The number of kinds of jobs has exploded but job security is non existent.

We live in a world of services now. These jobs are shit(call centres, cashiers, fast food) and part time.

You need to learn and find a boom and exploit it. I can't stress that 'work smarter not harder' mantra. In some boom areas you can become a millionaire in 10 years if you work hard and save.

>but I plan on growing this account to the point where I can lose some serious money

Don't act like over entitled cunts.

There is way tooo much LIFE SO HARD or MY LIFE SUX WORKIN 4 DA MAN from late teen to mid 20 some guys working shitty retail jobs.

IM SO DEPRESSED I NEED PILLZ N THERAPY BAWWW /r/DEPRESSED BAWWW.

People say mental health illnesses are on the rise. Of course they fucking are, because people are told they're sick. So people believe they're sick. Just like believing in a religion or luck or some other bullshit. People read up on it and feel kinda blue and paint themselves into the god damn picture.

People didn't have time to be depressed or anxious before. They worked a hard fucking day and slept. They were busy

Nowadays people are idle on fucking computers so much it just builds into some self defeating prophecy.

I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety issues in my early 20's. Baww baww I was like the other bleeding hearts you see on /adv/ or whatever shithole.

Then I grew the fuck up. Rather than doing nothing I did things no matter how pointless I felt they were. I did what I listed above(ii.move to a boom). I did my research and found out what I needed to do. I worked my shit job and saved enough money for a few months rent/living expenses.

I worked really hard for a few years. I didn't drink, smoke, gamble or go to strip clubs like the other workers. SAVE money do not BORROW money. I came back home and bought a home that needed some fixing up. I work a simple job for a friends company a few hours a week to cover my other expensive.

There is _a lot_ of pressure thrown on young men these days. That earlier mentioned 'yer sick in the head bro' shit and other normal stuff(you NEED car, you NEED your own home, you NEED a smartphone, etc). Live your own life and get by how you can.

Grow weed indoors and sell it. Try not to rely on buying seeds, use cuttings instead. With some big growboxes and strong lights you can harvest a lot. Read all tutorials about indoor growing you can find online, there are really hundreds of them. Inform yourself about fertilizers etc. It isnt really hard to do it, and if youre interested in plants/gardening, it can be fun too. Oh and you never run out of weed. Ask people how much they pay for their weed, and give them a try-out, so they see your stuff is quality. If they like it, offer it to a price which is slightly lower than the one they used to buy for. Like that you can establish a base of customers. Sorry for my bad english.

commissions are very dependent on two things:
1. commissioner-artist relationship
2. the price and quality of the final piece
[picture related] cost me about $27, and I think it's a bit overpriced, but I had the money to blow and the guy I was commissioning could use the money (plus we're long-time friends.) your best bet, if you decide to be a commissioned artist, is to sit down and go "how long will it take me to make a picture on average and how much do i want to get paid an hour" and find a good balancing point between the two. typically you charge more for every character involved and can nickel-and-dime for things like backgrounds
I work as a mediocre 3d artist and I charge $5 for a commission with two characters and it brings me a decent amount of money. pictures only take me 2 hours or so to make on average, and that's when I'm typically playing games or something

A friend of mine is a furry porn artist who does commissions. So I've seen how that fandom's artists operate, and I can't help but facepalm. Absolutely nobody in that fandom has any business-sense (except the chick who runs "Club Stripes"). No one collaborates, outsources, or has the discipline to follow through with a project. For example, most of those guys still photocopy and staple their porn, they don't have the business sense to outsource the printing to a company like lulu.com (which printed the My Little Pony fan-porn book "Hoof Beats", so they will print porn if you ask them to!). I'm just saying, if anyone went into that fandom with any sense for making money, they could clean up!

no money, no job, presumably no credit, and you're worried about giving away your info? It's not like anyone can do anything to you, besides maybe come to your house and fondle your butthole or something, but that's a story for another day.

There's an abundance of paranoid people on /diy/ it's very odd -- reminds me of a guy in another thread who didn't want to operate power tools because he had "seen a guy get injured by a chainsaw one time."

Fearful people do not get far in life, especially not when you're trying to break free from the grind of the 9-5 lifestyle and become your own boss. It takes dedication, it takes hard work, and above all it takes a willingness to risk it all. You might spend countless hours and capital funds and end up with nothing of substance, but that's the only way you're going to have a shot in the dog-eat-dog world.

There's no such thing as "go try this strategy and you will be guaranteed to make this much money" unless you're willing to take the 9-5 with a pre-established wage.

Question for you (or any with experience) in regards to ebay/amazon sales

How do you handle the shipping aspect of it? I mean do you insure your packages, or just send with basic post? Do you have sign on delivery for more expensive items? Tracking?

How much care do you take in the actual packaging of your items? Bubble-wrap and heavy-duty envelopes? Or do you keep it as cheap as possible?

I don't have a lot of experience with online sales and this is one aspect that has always seemed to be a hang-up for me.

Also do you have to deal with customers charge-backing at all, or claiming they did not receive merchandise? If so, is it common or fairly rare? Or do you insure/sign-on-delivery everything as to avoid this?

Any info appreciated

>How do you handle the shipping aspect of it? I mean do you insure your packages, or just send with basic post? Do you have sign on delivery for more expensive items? Tracking?
Insurance is based on whether or not the customer chose it- there's an option they can select during their checkout and the seller is notified. If the site doesn't automatically give the customer this option, make sure that they know to send you a note with their preference. Tracking numbers are automatically assigned when the labels are printed through Paypal's Multi-Order shipping. Signing on delivery, like insurance, is also optional.

>How much care do you take in the actual packaging of your items? Bubble-wrap and heavy-duty envelopes? Or do you keep it as cheap as possible?
Thick envelopes with a generic box inside for small First Class items, plain cardboard boxes for larger ones, and Flat Rate Boxes/Envelopes for Priority/Express. Bubble wrap is reserved for expensive, insured, or international items.

>Also do you have to deal with customers charge-backing at all, or claiming they did not receive merchandise? If so, is it common or fairly rare? Or do you insure/sign-on-delivery everything as to avoid this?
If the customer is claiming that an entire order never arrived, we can use the tracking number to determine if they're lying or not. If they say that an item was missing in a large order, we assume that they're telling the truth and send a replacement. These situations are rare, so if it is some sort of scam it isn't much of a loss. As mentioned above, insurance and signing are optional.

Not sustainable income, but i make around 300-400 Euros each month by writing articles for an online publication. Considering this is additional income (also have an 8-5 job) it's not too bad. Sometimes I also participate in "user cloud testing" when I'm bored. Like testing an electronic device for measuring blood sugar, then uploading the results to an online platform and play around while documenting all of it. Said test took me around 90 minutes and earned me 30 euros, but that was an exceptional good payment (hence why I participated).

What's a job I can do without dealing with people on a frequent basis? The minimal sort of thing. It can be back-breaking labor (preferably not "back-breaking" but something with lots of hard work and effort is nice).

I just got a job. Maintenance tech at an apartment complex. I was doing simple stuff at first: picking up the grounds, painting. Actually, that was about it.

But they lied to me about when I could get an apartment and were having me set to move in immediately. I started to get things together. Then they told me I had a probationary period of 90 days. And seemed to demote me to picking up all of the grounds by myself which would take two hours. And only delivering letters. And doing small things. And said I wasn't working fast enough. And that I shouldn't talk to my manager. Or ask her questions. Or be in the office at all.

And then they told me to clean out the shed which I had no knowledge of. For some reason, all of this made me extremely angry, especially the lying about my potential apartment. So I quit, despite liking the work that I was doing previously. I loved the hard work and painting and moving around.

What can I do that allows me to be alone for the most part like when I was by myself, painting the apartments?

I play poker online and live. I will be happy to answer questions tomorrow, it is too late. But to get it started, poker is not luck. The only people who say it takes luck say that to justify their losing.
I started playing online. I improved my skill on the low stakes. After a few months I was dominating the tables, playing 3 games at once. I usually grind PLO, or NL Hold'em. I later worked up my nerves to try live poker in a casino. The first day I was there I sat at a medium-high stakes NL table wearing a dark hoody and sunglasses. Everyone else was dressed in suites and ties, most were local business men having fun. They looked at me like I was some broke collegetalented /diy/erwho didn't have a clue what he was doing. First hand I got pocket Ks, raised it 3 BBs to test the waters. Half of the guys called, the rest folded. I knew I had the best hand and went for value bets.I had everyone right up to the river, everyone folded but one guy, he went all in. I looked at him for a second and knew he was bluffing. I called him (only 1/2 my stack). The guy had 7 and a pair of deuces. 7 fucking deuce unsuited, the worst possible hand in poker.

Sorry for spelling mistakes / grammar, I am fucking tired.

If you're selling on eBay, shipping rates are very important to know when listing. Get a reliable scale, know your prices, and have the supplies stocked. eBay has a lot of streamlined shipping features (tracking, label printing, address verification) that make it easy.

Side note: One common trick is to use Priority Mail Flat Rate Envelopes and put Small Flat Rate Boxes in them to add extra padding. Find your local alternative weekly/free newspaper and use that for the rest of the space. Seal it, slap your eBay formatted label on there, and you're good to go. Bubble wrap is fairly expensive, so make sure you calculate how much you're using and be stingy on small sales.

The general rule is that 1 out of 20 customers on eBay will give you a problem. People open cases or write negative feedback at the drop of a hat. I've seen 3000+ feedback accounts taken down for what happened in two transactions (one justified, the other not so much). Delivery confirmation (free with First Class) stops a lot of would-be scammers. Giving partial refunds is another tactic to employ with irate customers (it happens, even if it's not your fault).

Only insure if it's fragile and/or expensive.
Paypal and eBay almost always side with the buyer in disputes, so you have to be careful not to get them involved unless you're sure the customer is wrong/scamming and you have some proof.

Anyone here with experience making money through physical Auctions, such as Police Recovery Auctions or just generic public auctions?

Is there much money to be made buying at auctions and then reselling through other avenues (ebay, craigslist, newspaper, etc) or are the margins generally low? Looking at some of my local auction history it looks like things tend to sell for about 20-50% of retail value, so there's quite a savings, but that's just based on a quick look - I don't know if that's typical, and of course resale on my end would also be discounted compared to retail value so I don't know what kind of margin that leaves.

If anyone has hands-on experience with this I'd love to hear about it. I thought I'd seen a post similar to this one in the past about someone who made a consistent salary off buying/reselling at swap meets.

The idea with blog revenue (and SEOs on wordpress sites) has to do with finding specialized niches.

Remember you only need a small piece of the pie to make money. The internet's a pretty big place, if you can get 0.0000001% of the users to look at your stuff, you're going to profit.

You're right in saying that almost every topic is saturated, but you need to find niches.

Don't think
>write blog on movies
think
>write blog on horror movies
and deeper still
>write blog on horror movies about zombies
and deeper still
>write blog on korean horror movies about zombies
and deeper still
>write blog on korean horror movies about zombies by a specific director or that stars a specific actor

So you dig deeper and deeper in a topic until you find something that isn't saturated, and since there are literally billions of internet users, all you need is a tiny fraction of them to be interested in your topic and you have the potential to make money.

Its sad the lack of imagination some of you have out there...
the truth is if you have a internet connection you can easily make money off of ebay or a similar site where you list a good and someone buys it.
The great thing about eCommerce is that the good doesn't even need to be any good as long as the profit margins there for both the consumer and the seller a sale will be made.

when I was still in highschool I would sell mystery boxes on ebay for 10 bucks including shipping, i would spend 3 bucks on 1 light weight item at a thrift store or swap meet or garage sale, 1 dollar for some weird old candy and the rest i would fill with random shit that would accumulate from said yard sales or just shit i had in my drawers i didnt want anymore. the items were strange retro and often cheep and lightweight,

I would usualy turn a 5 buck average profit from them and if I got up early enough to go to yard sales I could make even more, with the ability to haggle can turn any item into a .25 cent bargain bin buy.

I dont do this anymore because I graduated and got a real paying job but I do recommend at least analyzing your situation and resources at hand and brainstorm some money making schemes.

its easier than you would think

This can be a good source of somewhat passive income which can supplement any job you have already.

Although its very dependant on how many views you get per month, which has been an issue with many people because of the video search algorithm. My view amount used to be constantly growing until YouTube tweaked their algorithm and homepage layouts, now it's down by about 75%.

This wouldn't be a problem if your already well known on YouTube, if you have a small channel (like me sadly) its another story.

Musician. I play on the street while I get my masters.

Playing on the street is good money, so long as you're good and know where to play. I've been doing it since I was a junior in high school. On a normal day which includes about 8-10 different locales around the city, I usually make $200 or so. I've made as much as $500 in a day. I play around 3 days a week when I don't have classes, so that comes out to about $45k a year. Allows for a modest lifestyle when grad school is accounted for. I have a decent apartment that my parents mostly pay for, and I end up paying around $600 for living expenses per month (food, bills, and what little rent i actually pay)

As nice as it is to make so much in one sitting, it requires a lot of energy. It's definitely difficult and a lot of hours (upwards of 12 hours of playing from morning to evening), and it's not something I want to do forever, or even within a year or two. My ultimate goal is to join a professional symphony orchestra. I'm planning on joining the Marines or Navy once I get my degree and playing in one of their many military bands.

Been looking into mobile applications for iphone/android and im starting to think the best way to make cash with them is learning how to program and make them yourself compared to hiring a company and doing it.. Ive looked into outsourcing (china & india) but they still want a bit of $$. Too risky, the app market is really big, and expanding quickly i'd really need to figure out a GREAT game/app in order for me to go in that direction. Hell maybe when my new website is running and opened it could be a possibility, wouldnt mind churning out a couple games.

Someone brought up online poker..Fuck playing it, ive found a company which sells & hosts the software for online poker and casinos. They take care of everything all you do is advertise it and find members and theyll wire you the money..yes its illegal in the u.s.a. But its not in many other countries! Its a grey area for everyone involved but I know for a fact its quick cash ( met a guy who owned an online casino hosted in the bahamas, bought a mercedes benz w. cash)

Anyways, im looking for some partners business, ideas, development wise basically internet money making brainstorming sessions followed by execution of plans..ive got a bunch of undeveloped urls, webspace, and most importantly TIME (broken leg from wakeboarding) must have skype & some experience with web development/business/graphics..

> Host from home (if you have a good internet plan and some spare drives), or resell / rent

Find a niche if you can. Web space is NOT cheap usually, so you can make pretty sweet cash off it. Hosting for 1TB will usually cost at least $15 a month - if you go with a service like Dropbox then it is way more. My mate resold server space to a small art community, he would host images at a dollar or so a pop - pretty cheap right? But that is crazy overpriced, and he was upselling for 20 times the price.

Server up time is super important, and same with network bandwidth, I hope you have a good internet plan.

The Marines and Navy require absolutely 0 degrees to play in their "many bands". Their premier bands (~1 per service) are tougher to get into than your average Tier I orchestra, people leave the Phil. to go into them.

The field bands you can get into out of high school, no matter what degrees you have you start as E-1 and are E-5 in ~ 36 months. There is no OCS into Band-ship unless you win one of the like TWO band officer auditions that are external, and competed with by college wind band and high school directors with like 15-20 years of teaching experience. But you better hurry up, I think the Marines just cut down to 4 bands not including the PO and DC.

Oh and you play the national anthem 367 times a year. And by that I mean there is hardly any diversity in the style or type of music that is played. And you spend a lot of time in rotation pushing papers and pulling guard duty... not that there's anything wrong with that.

If you want to get into a professional symphony you need to be practicing like it's your job, at least 6 hours a day, with private lessons. You need to be doing excerpts and excerpts and excerpts, and score study. If you are a winds player your journey is 10000x more difficult, because there is usually 1 slot and hundreds if not thousands of applicants, usually doctors with 03720937497 years of experience. You think your Orchestra flute player is some ditzy 18 year old chick? No its some 40-50 year old man with like 10 degrees and he can play five octaves out his ears. You gotta be uber boss, even for smaller symphonies, and then you don't get paid.

>I've only done temp work at fedex

>live with the parents

this is all my fault

I do surveys, contests, and use sites like freebie shark

I am lazy and I know it.

I want to be rich but I have no desire to go out and make a large income.

I feel totally fucked over with wanting to become a professional musician.

>can't get recommendation letters for college from my high school music teacher(s) because none of them are still at the school
>wound up getting some gigs in pit bands for musicals in the region after high school but the music director I worked under also moved away
>haven't gotten called since because the current director uses the same musicians or recordings
>tutor hasn't been around in the area because family issues
>have limited knowledge of music besides history information and performing
>play two woodwind instruments, only own one

I was interested in trying to get into Hartt at the University of Hartford but at this point I'm probably going to get stuck going to Uconn, if I can even still get in there after all of this...

The purpose of getting rich is to live comfortably, if I can't live like that while getting rich then I don't see a point. I just want a peaceful life :3

Can't you just go on youtube or something? Is formal recognition and training that important in music?

You still have to try out when you try to join the Navy bands. If you suck, they won't let you play and they'll give you some other job.

I got out a couple of years ago and I don't play instruments, but last I knew the band was pretty hard to get into.

Amazon question! I just posted like 20 games, they all were active, and now 2 of them say Inactive-Out of Stock. I would assume this would mean they were bought, but I have no "Orders" or haven't received any emails. Anyone know about this?
