Found one of these out in the shed while cleaning it for an elderly relative. He was glad to get rid of it and with a new battery and some oil it came back to life.

From what I can tell it has a 250 watt motor and runs on a 12 volt battery. It will go 15mph. This thing has roughly the same propulsive force as an electric wheelchair.

The problem with increasing power is it would also need a new motor controller. I'd basically need an all new drive system to make it go faster and have more battery capacity.

An easy conversion option would be a lithium polymer electric bicycle kit. Most use a hub motor and you won't be able to use that but it'll give you the right batteries, motor controller and a throttle that looks like it'll fit on the C5's handlebars. After that just get a regular drum motor of the same wattage as the hub motor from the kit and install that in the C5's drivetrain.

Speeds of 50mph are realistic with this method, assuming a motor that is 1kw or more.
