Posting drawing tutorials, tips, tricks ect I've found throughout my interweb travels. Mostly pencil work, although learning dimensions, and proportions will help digital artists greatly also.

Also, these tutorials are terrible.

Here's some of the best anatomical reference on the interwebs: http://inspirationalartworks.blogspot.com/p/anatomy-images.html

The only thing you need to do when learning to draw is get over the initial symbolic drawing phase. After that it's a matter of putting the hours in, honing your technique, sense of beauty and your inner reference library (anatomy, aspects of design, stuff like that)

These tutorials you read up on the internet will never help you. Get Keys to drawing by Dodson or Betty Edwards drawing on the right side of the brain. But don't read Edward's psychobabble, it's a bunch of bullshit. Just do the exercices.

It is essential to learn the basic proportions, dimensions, and the mathematics behind it if you wish to become a master. it's not as simple as picking up a pencil and "using the right side of your brain" These guidelines may be drawn roughly, but without understanding the basic principles, it'll be a challenge to draw completely from your imagination.

You only need these if you don't have a master to teach you. You should read up on the russian method. They pretty much teach you anatomy and perspective and the standard technique for studying and then leave you on your own and correct you as you go. You don't need to know proportions, because they vary from person to person. You need to learn a sense of proportion, not rules.

>> No.217620

I disagree completely, all measurements are different, yes, but through learning the methods you'll be able to calculate the proportions accurately. Have you not seen Leonado's Vitruvian Man ?

>> No.217677

Vitruvian man only proves the plasticity and Da Vinci's obsession with proportions. There's no need for them. A naked eye can reveal more than any measurements about any work. Just look at some Ilya Repin. They've named their most prestigious academy after him and he's one of the best examples of what you can achieve when you ditch all the measuring equipment and grids.

Asperger Syndrome brains are specialists - meaning they tend to be extremely GOOD at whatever their fixation is, which includes creative/artistic fields as well.

Your statement was like saying, "There's a reason fish don't tend to be good swimmers."

>> No.218075

good lord, how did a drawing tut thread become about Asperger's? I will put in my two cents as an anon mother of an autistic child. He Loves Trains. He can tell you everything you want to know about trains, when they come and when they go, what era a picture of a certain train is from, who the inventor of that train was and when it was last use din service. He can draw them from memory and include tiny details that a regular person would forget to. I would draw a boxcar and he would "finish" the drawing for me even at a very young age. The human brain is amazing and it is definitely BUILT for storing information. Asperger's and Autism stunt one part of the brain, usually social and self-image, but they do NOT stop creativity.

Yes, "little professors", not "little painters".

>Asperger Syndrome brains are specialists - meaning they tend to be extremely GOOD at whatever their fixation is, which includes creative/artistic fields as well.

It's a rare fixation that is artistic, even rarer that an artistic aspie bee good at multiple media. Even so, when one's fixation is on something artistic, he will figure out the the same principles being denounced as 'overly restrictive rules', but are actually principles necessary to make a piece of art look good.

>Your statement was like saying, "There's a reason fish don't tend to be good swimmers."

It was more like "there's a reason fish don't tend to be good cooks".

As an aspie who paints with an aspie son who plays guitar, I can tell you that we two tend to be the minority. The bulk of the other kids at the clinic, both for me as a child and for my son now, don't tend ot be artistic. They like to focus on irrelevant facts like the specs on fire engines or whether han fired before greedo.
