DIY Custom guitar amplifiers. Post everything related to making them. I want to make one with no engineering knowledge.

How about fuck you, and start posting materials. I have no advanced engineering knowledge, but I know my way around soldering and basic theory, probably to a greater extent than most of you.

You aren't building a custom amplifier with no prior knowledge. You could use a kit or something, but seriously, it ain't happening.

Solder station is the least of your worries, you will be dealing with high voltages and without the proper knowledge, the chances of you injuring yourself is very high.

And the way you have acted in this thread demonstrates that you are immature.

dude,

Buy a kit, or if you can read schems you can
make one from scratch. i wouldn't recommend
doing any work that requires the unit to be on
(like biasing) but i'd say go for it if you think you
can do it. Start out small though, blowing up
tubes is an expensive hobby.

DIYaudio forums are your friends.

Congratulations, you're now the equivalent of a $10/hour assembler (about as smart as a chimpanzee).

they can't tell you shit; they're all just retard board aspies here.

go to thrift stores or CL and find old tube organs and pry their guts out. The power amps make awesome starts for Fender amps.

Tube amps will kill your ass dead. There's usually 400-600v @ a bunch of amps floating around in those caps. Don't work on an amp until you've unplugged it and let the caps bleed out for a while. Working with one hand would be a good idea so the shock doesn't go through your heart.

If you want to make a metal amp, just go buy one. Too many fucking tubes. Start with Fender Tweed circuits and work your way up to the british amps with those expensive-ass transformers. $600 in transformer costs gave me sticker shock on wanting to build hi-gain.

jesus...I gotta remove this thread from my watched. I'm getting pissed every time I read down the replies and see how many shitty replies there were.

To you bad-ass DIYkes who're gonna launch a 'umad" salvo at me, take a second and compare your response to any random thread response from a retard board post. It appears the cancer from the retard board has already killed this wonderful possibility of a board, and I'm pretty sad about it.

I don't just mean the trolls here; the amount of REALLY stupid posts has gone up. Retard board trolls come here to blow off some steam on easy targets, then come up with a stupid idea...then return to post it. Bong posts, weapons posts, completely unrealistic goal posts...The problem is that when someone pops up with a post that has any possibilities, it gets shelled down.

At least DIY could tripfag up so it could be a circlejerk like auto, but anonymity + stupid posts + relentless asshole comments are going to kill this board dead before 30k posts.

So, a plea to DIYks. Just try to be helpful. If you HAVE an answer, please POST an answer, even if it's couched in sage/umad/greentext/etc. Volunteer some info, or be prepared to find a new board.

Mootles should just babort this fucking potato.

How about this: I'm in my mid 40's, have been an electronics tech since I was 17, and started playing around with it since I was 12. Build a small computer on perfboard froma 1976 Popular Electronics article when I was 15, including designing expansions for it and interfacing it to a Teletype model 33ASR so I could write programs in integer BASIC on it. I'm sitting in a lab at Intel in Folsom right now working on graphics chip testing (times are tough, take what work there is). You, on the other hand, have the critical earmark of the fatally ignorant: You *think* you know shit, but you don't even know enough to know that you don't know enough. By all means, though, jump right in head first. Modern technology is wonderful these days, funeral parlors can make you look almost life-like after you've managed to electrocute yourself.

You can't make a "custom" anything without any engineering knowledge.

Good for you, you know how to use a soldering station. I taught my hippy girlfriend how to solder and she doesn't even know how to hang a picture on a stud.

http://www.freewebs.com/valvewizard/
This guy has great resources that will give you enough to study for at least 3 months part time. I'm not going to give you the forum URL I go to, we just got rid of all our cancer.

Even if it were possible to give a paint by numbers breakdown of this shit, you have literally given us nothing to work with... such as
-budget
-desired output level
-a tone/ tones you want to achieve

I feel like I got trolled.

>> No.208377

I've build several audio amps, of which only one lasted and is still in use. And I would hardly call them "custom" since I've been using recommended circuits from datasheets - though the entire power supply path is my idea, including staged turn-on (preamp first, output last), but that's hardly rocket science.

I belive to have sufficient knowledge to come up with my own design, but the first schematic is one thing, the final working model quite another. And I know that much because I do have engineering degree and quite a bit of actual experience.

So, OP, you're not building anything "custom" without the knowledge and the soldering skill will be needed, sure, but only for the assembly. That's like the last thing to do, assuming your design is perfect from the start, which I seriously doubt. Debugging a faulty analog circuit is not exactly as trivial as some think.

Get a DIY set, start with that, then we can talk more.

An X88r only costs about $400 to make (including tubes, using primo parts) since it's just a preamp.
