Hey OP, I have a question.

I'm on my 2nd used Eureka Whirlwind (allergyfag, love the filtration). Both Whirlwinds I've owned have chewed through belts like mad. The belt seems to naturally ride about hanging partway off of the motor shaft, and then if anything jams the beater bar, the shaft slips and burns right through the belt.

Is this common, or have both of my Whirlwinds just been broken in the same way?

For household use, my Dyson is the best thing I've ever bought. Very difficult to clog the thing, I've accidently sucked up pens and pencils and other crazy items.

The suction is wicked. Gets up pet hair without a special end.

I know they are expensive but considering how often we had to buy new vacuums the dyson has payed for itself in avoided replacement costs alone.

Hey OP I run across quite a few vacuums as I run a small hauling business. I take peoples stuff to the dump, due clean outs, etc.

Would it be worth it for me to invest a bit in fixit stuff for vacuums or is it just more practical to toss them.

Case in point. I just got this one in. The owner bought a newer one. This one almost works but I think it needs a filter change or cleaning. Is it worth the time and money for it? I rarely get more than twenty bucks for them on Craigslist and try to peg my hourly rate to twenty bucks an hour as well.

If it becomes a huge project I would just toss them.

Thanks OP and ignore the idiots in DIY. We need better mods to start dumping some ban hammers.

>> No.202560

Tbh, until these vacuum manufactures post their Airwatts specs, I wouldn't use one. cleaning power (Air Watts) = airflow (CFM) × suction (inches of water) / 8.5

Its been shown that dry vacs lose airflow, as the filters and bags clog (fyi, "filter-less" dysons have filters) within 3 minutes of use. So, unless a machine has a way of maintaining continuous airflow, its pointless.

BTW, I used to design bags and new EPA regulations make the holes so small in them, that bags typically clog to 10% of the original airflow of a clean bag within 30 seconds of use, as dust in the air clogs the bags.

In that situation thats not dysons fault. She should be pissed and angry at the koreans.
There are always 2 sides to a story. Perhaps the problem she had wasn't something that was covered by the warranty. If it was a problem that should have been covered and the koreans were an authorized servicer. Then she should call dyson direct and see if they filed a claim against it. If they are as rude as she states they very well may have dbl dipped which is a big no no dealing with warranty authorized repairs.

I deal with appliances and I would think it was similar. I know that on a warrantied unit we can either bill the mfg or the customer, but not both.

Fun thing about warranties: Unless the manufacturer is in your town, you need to pay to ship their defective shit to them for repair. For something as large as a vacuum cleaner this is sufficiently impractical to ensure that the company doesn't have to honor many warranty claims.

The worst offenders are consumables that tell you to send the item back to the manufacturer for a full refund if you're not completely satisfied.

>$2 jumbo box of horrible cereal that gave you the shits
>costs $5 to ship to the manufacturer

Ins made us stop tying down loads for customers, now all we can do is load it and they are then resp for securing it. I have shook my head in disbelief at what ppl think secure means. One guy secured his load with fishing line. He said thats all he had.

Alright, I have a few questions.
I have a Eureka Whirlwind+ bagless vaccum in green. not sure the model. Works pretty darn good. Not as good as the bagless models, but I got tired of finding out stores stopped selling them.
Do the dysons really work better? I hear terrible shit about them all the time so I am very skeptical about it. One of my main complaints about this model is that the hardwood floors setting leaves something to be desired. The carpets is fine, it sucks like a pro, but beyond that.

I also have pet rabbits and they leave fur everywhere. I have considered the Dyson Pet model but I have been balking at the price.

I have a dyson that I bought when I was single and had money to burn. Needless to say I love it. I love how it breaks down so much with little or no tools to clean, repair, or remove blockages.

It cleans very well. I am always amazed at how much crap it picks up from the carpet. Granted I dont use it for my hardwood floors, so I cant compare its cleaning ability there.

I too almost went with the pet version, but iirc the main difference was an attachment that let you clean the furniture a little better. So I didnt feel it justified the extra cost for the one attachment. They may have more differences now however.
