Is it possible I only think window walls look good because of how incredibly expensive they are to own? The temperature control is outrageous

/diy/ is the most relevant board for talking about home ownership.

What? You can get efficient triple glazed glass. You could probably do it yourself with helium, for good soundproofing. Also this

The link you posted is irrelevant. Super expensive metal glass is the opposite of an insulation material.

>glass looks good
>glass expensive
>glass bad insulation
If you look at it close enough you can even see the reflection of your retarded face

Yes glass in windows are bad at insulation, but the thermal conductivity of aluminum is over 150 times worse that of glass. That is the reason aluminum is used for heatsink and not for walls.

The thermal properties do not really matter if you do not care about living in a climate controlled house. Leave the theromastat low in the winter and just open the windows in the summer, your house is now energy efficient and your heating and cooling bills will probably be cheaper than most well insulated homes.

My neighbor was recently bragging about how cheap his fancy super insulated house is to heat, my heating bill was half that of his despite my ancient furnance and uninsulated house of about the same size. I just put on a sweater, a nice wool sweater does wonders for heating bills.

the thing about glass is that it is generally speaking see-through. this is one of its most noteworthy attributes. so if the thing on the outside of the window wall looks good then the window wall will look good from the inside. this is axiomatic.

how does your family feel about living in a refrigerator during the winter?

I like a nice, toasty house in the winter time. It's the only time I can actually enjoy warmer temperatures thanks to low humidity.

They feel just fine about it. My lady and I spent a few years in a yurt and a few in cabins while we saved up to buy so she is more or less of the same mind on things as I am. Also, it is somewhat difficult to view 50f as cold after spending the winter of 14' (polar vortex winter) in a yurt, we did not break -20f for over 3 months.

Nah, they all have sweaters as well.

Fuck you! You should only post shit that you are currently planning on "DO IT YOURSELF" fuck go to out or advice or some shit that is equally gay and worthless of your stupid thoughts. You planning on installing those windows yourself? Then I guess this is the spot for that, but not for your faggy Reddit pondering.

The temperature better be well regulated or else that piano is going to be in bad shape.

If this were my place I would have swapped the orgy pillow fort with the piano and have it face the window wall while playing.

You can get used to anything. We had no AC for a summer where temperatures were 100 degrees Fahrenheit plus, every day. Luckily I know how to refill the refrigerant in the system so we were able to manage.

Pianos predate climate control and do better than most wooden instruments when it comes to environmental changes. Might double the frequency of tuning/regulation.

works both ways, i too enjoy looking into people's houses through their glass walls
