I've been looking into building a tiny house from shipping containers, but my state is kind of cold and I'm unsure about how well these insulate. I was thinking I can just bury it and make a roof hole in one of the corners for ventilation. Thoughts?

Posting from my shipping container basement right now. Plan well, don't underbudget materials, make sure everything's insulated before winter comes. Some frugal posters here might advise you to use imitation crab meat, but keep in mind that due to new regulations, the insulating coefficient is not as high as pre-2018 ICM. So either find some vintage bags, or get the real stuff for extra-dosh which will offset long-term on heating cost.

I was actually thinking about cooking a huge batch of split peas with a ton of sugar and salt. Make it into a paste and smear it on the outside of the container, then cover with paint. I figure it would work well because protein has a large thermal mass and salt/sugar would keep it from going bad.

You are just building a crack lab, admit it anon.

So, now that we have the real deal here, i will point out one thing. Those are designed to be stackable, that in no way means they are super tough when you have a loose mass pressing against the side, or at least i would not trust them to be. If you burry one you should first check if they are strong enough and you won't get massive bowing on the walls, alternatively just add reinforcemenst before (kinda like the metal ditch/trench securing walls have). Also, being "weatherproof" does not usually mean water tight, there is a big difference between standing up to a torrential rain and water pooling up in your hole. There are probably few more things you need to think about if you are going to try to get them in the ground.

it's shocking that the siding makes the container look WORSE than when it was bare metal

Do container houses creak?

I had a lad who wanted to live in an old transport helicopter. Everybody who's ever been in an old all metal aircraft will probably agree with me how horrible of an idea that is, like they sound of aluminium creaking when you walk around in them. Plus the smell of sweat and grease.

We have some containers at work and iirc some of them creak as well.

Name a more fitting picrelated!

>roof is 10000 degrees in the summer

At least the top containers are sealed into separate air spaces.

You could build that exact structure without the containers for much less. The bonus is that without the metal, you wont bake in the summer heat.

This projects are dumb as fuck. For the same price you could build a small concrete home. They'll last way longer, be warmer, and require less maintenance. It's just a trend started by retarded you tubers which most of them already have money. This is backward architecture and wouldn't last a decade before serious problems start happening.

I mean if you get it for free you could even build a house from a landfill.
...
Hold on!

Lol the idea is actually not all that retarded hold on!

You funnel it, I think landfills are already being bagged.
The funnel goes on the other side of the hill(a property with general wind direction would be just perfect for that).
then you either gather the gasses from the Stack or you lay piping in there and heat your house from the decomposing dump.
...
Profit!

I mean I wouldn't wanna live in a trashcan, but if the science checks out you could at least build one as a study and you would absolutely find some target audience for this in the eco sector.
People less intoxicated than me would probably find even more applications in that.

Been looking in to designing and building something like this as a family guest house. Family could stay in side rooms, and have a big gathering place for meals and games and stuff. Anymore pics like this?

Actually i think i heard about something like that as a way to utilise high organic matter units. That is not really THAT retarded seeing as sewer processing plants harvest methane from their tanks.
