Reddit thinks this is a good table. Could you make a better one anon?

>> No.1851332

i couldn't but this looks horrible. too crude. unless thats on purpose. maybe zoomers think thats a cool design. look at those gaps. so he just cut a few boards and joined them and thats it. done.

>> No.1851353

Is he finished? He didn't even finish the sides but did the top. The bottom doesn't match either. So no I don't like the table. I get something cheap to get the job done. I'd say solid job if it was at least finished the same. It'll last longer than most cheap tables anyways

>> No.1851357

It looks like the boards are all horribly bent which causes the gaps.

Legs are so-so okay for the purpose aside from probably not having pads on the bottom to stop the paint from scratching off and the steel from scraping the floor.
The top is so bad I wouldn't even make something like that for my garage. It's not strong enough to make up for the lack of cross supports, god knows how weakly joined it is with the legs, stain is ugly, endgrain is not stained for some reason. For the same purpose and budget, I would've just gotten a thick piece of MDF, maybe install a cross brace and a thinner piece of MDF. Plywood would've been fine too. Alternatively could've gone for the full hipster look and use pipes and pipe fittings for the legs, then the current "hazardous chemicals spilled on the pallet but I made a table out of it anyway" style of the top would fit better.

Looks like fast-grown rough construction lumber.
The wood looks unjointed, just butted up against each other.
Visible marks from lumberyard rough cutting, especially on the middle board (i.e. the planks have not been sanded or planed before staining).
Not stained on the edges.
Warped boards, mounted seemly at random, some are cupped upwards whilst others are cupped downwards.
Boards are all slightly different lengths.

Not a woodworker by the way, just at the peak of "mount stupid" on the Dunning-Kruger curve.

From my experience not really. He showed no sign of wanting to get involved in that shit because he saw the danger. Meanwhile my customer before him was some boomer who tried to make electrical repairs himself resulting in numerous shocks and crossed up wires, drywall repairs himself which were just absolutely abhorrent and you could push through them with your pinky, he tried to do his own plumbing etc etc but this guy wouldn't ever consider building his own table as he considered stuff like that beneath him.

Anon for as much shit as you talked in your thread you seem to not know how long it takes to cut copper. You're looking at about a minute a cut unless you're using some super thin walled shit. The brazing should take at least 30 minutes if you do it all in one go and only because those are easy brazes and you don't actually need to do them properly. >>1852365

Those joints should be brazed and the main problem isn't in the joints, it's in the 3/4 copper piping he wants to use since it is designed to be hand bent. The plywood would be fine with some nice 3/4, I've built hundreds of stands on 3/4 and you can make it look nice and it supports quite a bit of weight.

10-30 sec in reality. Also you can cut half-way and snap that piece off.
I have to do like 23 cuts, which is 5 minutes max
> The brazing should take at least 30 minutes
I won't be brazing this... Because I can't braze 3/4 pipe with my torch. I'd solder it with 95/5 solder.
Pipe prep is literally 5 second per fitting, since I've found out that muriatic acid works way better than sand paper. One wipe and clean copper is exposed. (given that pipe would be clean-ish). 5 seconds for flux apply.
Soldering itself - dunno.
Cutting plywood and making it nice-ish is 20 minutes.

Galvanic corrosion. Left is the small pieces, top is the main piece. Red indicates acceperated corrosion while green indicates normal or slightly slower corrosion.
In this case aluminum or steel pop rivets into copper pipe will corrode faster in the presence of an electrolyte.

https://www.azom.com/article.aspx?ArticleID=11833
>An example of a difference in the surface area being a big problem is if there is a large metal door bolted to a wall and the door is the cathodic metal and the small bolts are the anodic metal (in the presence of an electrolyte) then there is a far greater galvanic current, and so galvanic corrosion will occur at an accelerated rate.

>Similarly, if using metals which have a large potential difference, galvanic corrosion will occur faster. This would all need to be in an environment where there is an electrolyte present that creates a conductive pathway for electron movement.

>Using Table 1, we can see which metals are unsuitable to couple together. We can expect, using the same example as earlier, that if the door was made from gold, and the bolts from magnesium that the rate of corrosion (of the magnesium) would be incredibly high. If we swapped the materials around, making the bolts from gold and the door from magnesium, the anode would be far bigger, and so the rate of corrosion would be slightly slower.

>Do they just scroll and upvote everything without giving a fuck?

Much of reddit stopped being about content or substance long ago, and turned into an online game. You look for threads with a lot of traffic because that's where you get lots of votes. You then agree with the trend, and try to be funny or memeworthy so that your comment gets attention (and votes) so that it moves up higher and gets more votes.

It has been acknowledged for years that many redditors are idiots who upvote anything with a positive score and downvote anything with a negative score, without reading the post or the thread.

Karma is your score: upvotes minus downvotes. So, it turns into a huge circlejerk where most people try desperately to agree with the trend. It's very easy to play the game if you have zero depth of personality or intelligence.
