Anyone know a good way to cast epoxy into a convex shape? I'm new to working with epoxy resin in general, and youtube hasn't been much help when it comes to dealing with anything that isn't flat or jewelry. Hoping to achieve the same rough shape and depth, just slightly wider, of one of those long narrow rectangular serving dishes. Like like 30"x14" or something like that.

Hard mode - how could color it similar to pic related

make a mold out of wax. so make a box out of packaging cardboard or thick paper. get a object thats like what you want even if you had to make it. then put some small pegs in the bottom of the box to elevate it. spray down the object with nonstick cooking spray. wipe most of it off so its just a thin film

then place the object in and pour in the wax to half way. its important that the shape allows for the end result to leave the wax without killing the mold. then let that cool and harden and then spray the top of the wax with nonstick spray. add paper (or masking tape to the top of the wax if tape then no spray on the top) and wipe most of it off. fill the remainder of it with wax so it covers the top

when that cools then try to remove the cardboard then try to pull the top of the wax mold away then pull the object out. the hard part is doing this all over again to fill the inside but the principle is the same. the pegs are what allows this to work. when you do it for the inside object remember that it will be elevated by pegs so there will be holes in your finished product and you may be able to work this in with mounting the top to the bottom. the top halve of the outer object can be molded with the top halve of the interior object instead of all at 1 time unless you just wanted to cut it in half anyways

also the interior one needed to be done again. so you make a wax mold that makes a wax mold to get the positive shape back from the negative. why wax? if you dont have silicon to mold it its easier to get rid of to get your epoxy resin object

so basically you make the mold you made form wax to start if you got skill. just carve it out and just mold it and skip all the previous steps if you like
