Okay /diy/, I trust you more than any other source. Amidst hysterics and deniers it's really difficult to know what to believe. It has gotten to the point where I see my neighbours stockpilling water barrels and I can't quite tell if they are being smart or morons.
What is the intelligent course of action for the current situation? Dos and donts of things worth worrying about before it's too late?

>> No.1781841

Stocking up for an event that everybody knows is coming soon is not prepping, it's panic buying. The right time to have been prepping was months ago. Buy the twenty pound bag of beans when it goes on sale instead of the one pound bag. Even if nothing happens you will still eat the beans and save money. In any case it seems unlikely there will be any real shortages for this particular event, except for temporary logistics issues due to panic buyers.

>What is the intelligent course of action for the current situation?
You shouldn't partake into mass hysteria: if everyone starts stockpiling then the supply chain gets strained, which is exactly what's best to avoid in a situation like this. Quarantine is a measure to avoid people grouping together and physically connecting different groups of people, but it's not the end of civilization, quite the opposite. As for water barrels, if your tap water is safe to drink then there's no need to stockpile on water. You may want to shop a little more than average to minimize having to go wherever you get your food supplies, but as long as you follow some really basic safety procedures you don't risk anything, even when you stick your nose out of your basement. In all fairness unless you already have some health condition (like obesity, if you're a burger) or you're old enough to be retired, you won't die, but you could still spread the contagion to other, more frail, people which is the real risk in the small scale, and the sick people overwhelming the health system in the larger scheme of things. Tech Ingredients has done a really amazing video about safety procedures, and I'd follow his suggestion to make a homemade hand sanitizer by buying the raw active component in bulk and diluting it, and depending on the severity of the situation single use gloves, but I'd skip on face masks: they're not useful, unless you're already sick, or you must stay in contact with the public, so it's best to leave them to those who really need them.

well it all depends how bad things really are.
In a warzone you are going to want a gun and lots of ammo. don't have the image on this computer but there was an article from someone who lived in a war torn country (bosnia i think?) he advised gun and ammo first. soap second. you can shoot a bird for dinner but you can't shoot soap. kitchen gun was a scam.
but if it's not too bad, get about 50 cans in, extra sanitizer, extra soap, batteries, and any other consumable you use a lot of. camping stove and it's associated fuel for example. or matches/lighters to light your gas hob if things aren't that bad. bosnian guy also recommended lighters.

in addition, for specifics: barterable / trading items are fucking great. booze and fags. batteries and lighters.bin bags.
food wise I go for cans and dry goods, pasta sold out fast here, then the rice, then the cans.
I got something a lot of people overlooked: canned fruit. hope those fuckers like scurvy. along with beans, veg, pickled stuff, things like branston pickle and piccalilli are great, keep for ages.
DO NOT STOCKPILE WATER AND LOO ROLL. that is for idiots and niggers. seriously saw a black couple buying about 30 x 2L bottles of pop because the water had all sold out...... lets just say that I do not live in a dry country and the taps still work. speaking of that:
DO STOCK WATER PURIFICATION STUFF. those chlorine tablets, or a filter. i hear life straws are good although i never used them.
DO NOT STOCKPILE THINGS THAT COST A LOT. the chances of things getting really bad are very low, so you may need that money more in two months time to pay rent. something else to keep in mind: rich and powerful people are deeply invested and reliant upon in the current system continuing.

I'm aware that there's some dispute over what level of particulate filter is effective in blocking coronavirus, I went ahead and bought pic related mask and some of those pink p100 filters which fit onto 3m masks like this one. My question is, are the original particle filters in these masks also effective?

Morons. This is a virus, not a war or earthquake. Water and to some extent electricity will stay available unless the state were to collapse completely - and in such a case, no storage would be enough.
Better use that space to store food (and waterfilters, if you're worried about a total collapse).
>What is the intelligent course of action for the current situation?
Stock up on long-lasting, easy to prepare foods (canned or dried goods mostly, also some sweets and dark chocolate).
If you can afford it, get enough sports drinks for around a week to avoid electrolyte loss in case you become infected. Otherwise, applejuice mixed 1:3 with water is a suitable replacement.
Some pain meds might also come in handy if they're legal to own without prescription where you are.
Then just bug in and let it pass.

If you really have to go out (if you're in a system-relevant job or have the bad luck of being in the US) wear a FFP3 mask and googles. The mask alone won't help, as the virus also spreads through the eyes. Also wash your hands regularly (or disinfect them if washing isn't possible).

If stuff gets bad (pillaging and looting) you'll also want a weapon, preferably a semi-auto shotgun with large, exchangeable mags. I don't think it'll get that far though.

I'm no doomsday prepper professional... Just trying to use common sense. IMO most of this is stuff we all should have a small stock of, even when there is no pandemic. Atm everyone is panic buying which makes it difficult for those of us to find food who are not panicking. Personally, all I did was bought a few pounds of dried beans. IMO the best thing to do is get low sodium canned food (doesn't require cooking/heating to be edible; typically high in liquid contents; low sodium reduces water consumption) and water. What's the worst that happens? I see it going one of two ways: Nothing happens and then you have a stock of supplies like we all should have anyway. Or shtf and then you're great full you've got something.

I suggest beans, canned vegetables, rice, and stock up on water and water filtration straws. If you wanna live god damn lavish in times of turmoil get military rations/MREs, though they're out of most people's budget range.
>Luxury
Buy batteries and a Gameboy Color. It has a large library, can survive most falls, and it so obsolete that you can buy games for it at nearly any pawn shop for very little. Buy lots of alcohol, tobbacco, and maybe some narcotics. Buy an excess for trade, people will crave these things and give you a lot for a little; same goes for caffine drinks like tea, coffee, and soda.
>Medicine
Acedominifin for pain and fevers, nyquil so you can sleep off minor illnesses, steroids and vitamins to keep your hormones in check, and rubbing alcohol to disinfect wounds.
>Weapons
Get a baseball bat. It's long, does a lot of blunt damage, and it's also just nice if you wanna play Baseball. A pistol is all the gun you need for defense, I personally got a Smith & Wesson M&P but anything stronger than a .22 is good enough. Rifles are too heavy to carry around and shotguns just do a needless amount of damage, you don't wanna irreproachably fuck up your house.
>For a REAL Apocalypse

imo, all the times iv gone to the grocery store its been pretty much normal. the media hypes the crazy shit but thats not the norm yet.

also, think about it like this; stores are generally stocked well and people can only buy so much in preparation. most of the fear buying has happened already and stock levels will probably return to normal. just go buy stuff when you need it and avoid everything else.

A proper prepper should be stocking on HEALTHY foods, and should know how to store and cook them.

Healthy meaning preservative free, low sugar, low salt, whole foods.

Dry grains (beans, wheat, corn) will last for years if stored properly. Buy them in bulk. You will need a corona mill and basic knowledge on how to cook them in a million ways.

Also stock up on good sea salt (50kg is enough) and a variety of dry powdered spices (chili, curry, pepper, etc)

Also, invest in a pressure cooker and mason jars. Buy fruit and vegetables in bulk directly from farmers for a fraction of the cost, and get canning. Store bought cans are unhealthy addictive junk food. Do not waste money on food that will give you no energy, makes you obese and finances the worst corporations.

Get a RO water filter and a bunch of water containers. It will save you money on the long run, and if disaster spirals water will be the single most important resource to have.

Nevermind toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo and stupid consumerist products. All those are unnecesary, unhealthy and expensive. Learn to make lard and lye soap.

Get a bucket or two of real honey and ditch soda and caffeine. Make a habit of drinking tea with honey as a sweet fix, if its not enough you should have overcome your food addictions long before the crisis (good luck with withdrawal during a shitstorm).

Start growing lettuce. It will be your main source of fast, fresh vitamins. Crucial for good health.

Have a backup supply of fuel for cooking just in case.

Im not even a real prepper but I have done all of the above, and I guarantee eating like that will keep you fit and healthy while keeping your food expenses way down.

It does however require some work adapting to this lifestyle, Im pretty sure the average food junky will go insane for a while living like this.

The only thing I feel I should have and I dont are weapons and training, but most americans probably do, so that fills in the gap.

Just my two cents, good luck!

The center dividing bar should slope towards the back, and the outer bar should slope towards the front.

Make them slot into adjustable rail so you can move them back and forth depending on the size of the can

Survival author (fiction and non) Dr. Arthur Bradley claims everyone should have a 30 day supply of things like food, water, prescriptions/medical supplies, etc. I've thought about it and I agree this is a good plan. I'd rather be ready for multiple scenarios for 30 days than invest picky and choosy for scenarios. For example you can have 6 months of food, but can you survive a season with no heat/AC, no internet/grid, no running water. At that point you have to make a major life decision of "do I want to be a prepper." Are you and your familiy willing to sacrifice financial resources for the sake of "preparedness". Do you even own a house yet? Is it in a good area? Do you own a BOL? These may be more important questions than "muh stash." Prepping is a major life choice. Or can you plan for 30 days which is what most scenarios other apocalypse involve?

This, because a well stocked pantry allows opportunistic shopping. I do keep enough to go two months without shopping but that's also natural disaster prep. It gets eaten either way so no money is lost and much is saved.

I plan for at least that and have used in after hurricanes etc. Buying what you will use anyway in advance used to be called "home economics" a hundred years ago and works very fucking well.

>Prepping is a major life choice.
It's actually very low effort! 90% is mental and the supplies are quite easy to accumulate affordably. Consider silly shit people spend much more money on. If you can afford to live you can afford disaster preparedness. I coast through natural disasters and I'm coasting through Corona-chan because it's so easy. It's boring and delaying my lower back surgery, but it's not hard.

For example I can shelter in place because I planned long ago to live in an area near military bases for support and human networking (I'm an AF vet). I planned for slow growth because change is not to my advantage. I bought six acres cheap, we renovated the houses and I own it free and clear. All of those are basic smart life choices, not really prepping, just not being foolish.

I learned to wrench and fix nearly everything I own because that's what competent people should do for fun! All fun except masturbation should integrate useful skills and competencies. Even motorcycle collecting makes me a better mechanic, and if SHTF in an EMP way I'll be riding and driving. If I can do it so can you because I'm not special, just determined. Never have a useless hobby because useful hobbies are even more wonderful!

I learned computers because fuck paying someone for a vital modern necessity. The first thing I used a PC for was to learn about hardware and software, as well as how to research my many other interests. I learned basic welding and machining because they complement everything else and greatly increase my understanding of metal and machinery.

I don't game because it's degenerate. I spend as much time online as any gamer but its all basically study and learning is a rush. DIY let me retire early and not need to work.

DIY = life

>Gotta love how easy it is to make burgers seethe...

Educated burgers have no problem but we have a lot of ignorant white trash. What do Germans call your worthless white people?
