>1/2 inch copper pipe
>Think, OD is 1/2
>Measure. OD is 15 mm. ID is 14 mm.
This is not fucking half inch pipe. It is 15 mm pipe. 1/2 inch is 12 mm, and that copper pipe doesn't have 12mm, no matter how you measure it.
It is like saying you have 8 inch penis, but it is in fact 18 cm.

Thank God plastic pipes don't use retarded units, if they say 25mm, it is 25 OD.

Who fucking cares? Diameter matters, not arbitrary numbers.
If I didn't measure, I could have bought wrong pretty expensive drill bit, just because bunch of assholes decided to call 15 mm some arbitrary number.

Good thing you weren’t measuring 2” in, for the center of a 2x4

This also pisses me off.
They still call it 2x4, even though one with hairs is real 2x4, but one that is nice and smooth is fucking 4x10 cm

Isn't nominal pipe size supposed to be somewhere between ID and OD? 15mm and 14mm are both way above that.

pretty sure its always a little bit more than actual ID in case your viscosity and/or corrosion buildup is high, it still flows pretty good like its supposed to.

plumbing pipe is measured in ID because they care how much it can actually flow, not how much space it occupies.

PVC pipes follow NPS dimension standards, meaning that up to 12", the inside diameter of schedule 40 pipe is pretty close to the nominal size, with different schedules having different inside diameters. 14" and above, the nominal size is the outside diameter.

>>1722722
>Isn't nominal pipe size supposed to be somewhere between ID and OD?
No. It's based on historical use practices based on needs for pressure rating and flow. The nominal pipe dimension in modern sizing practices is close to the traditional internal diameter of "standard weight" iron pipes of that nominal size. Other pipe weights of the same nominal size vary the internal diameter so that they can use the same fittings as other schedules. "Standard weight" corresponds to the modern schedule 40. Higher schedules have a smaller-than-nominal internal diameter, while lower schedules have a larger-than-nominal internal diameter. Copper pipe uses a different system due to its historically different uses. See pic.

1mm = .03937"
1/2" = .5000"
.5000/.03937 = 12.7000 mm
1/2" does not equal 13mm

1/2" is closer to 13mm than it is to 12mm which the OP stated it was...

Most of the time 1/2" and 13mm wrenches are interchangeable.
